Casselman bail hearing review continues Tuesday (update)Monday, October 07, 2013 by: Steffanie Petroni
A bail review for Michael Casselman will continue Tuesday with closing arguments from his defence counsel.
The Crown submitted closing arguments Monday afternoon.
Superior Court Justice Ian S. McMillan heard submissions from defence counsel Bruce Willson, and assistant crown, Dana Peterson in the morning.
Evidence provided in the original bail hearing is under review after Casselman's defence counsel, Bruce Willson, challenged Justice of the Peace Marcel Bedard's decision to deny Casselman's application for bail.
It is uncertain if Justice McMillan will come back with a decision on bail on Tuesday or announce an adjournment to further review evidence presented in the bail hearing.
On August 31, 54-year-old Michael Casselman was arrested and charged with one count of operating a motor vehicle and exceeding the legal limit causing death.
However as a result of the ongoing investigation Casselman was later charged with one count of impaired driving causing death of Christa Lukenda Michaud.
On the 3rd of October officers from Traffic Services attended at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre and charged Casselman with one count of dangerous operation of motor vehicle causing death.
Please check back for an update later today.
