CIBC RUN FOR THE CURE
More than 600 in Sault Ste. Marie are expected to participate in the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure on Sunday, October 6th Foundation aims to raise funds in support of breast cancer research.
More than 60,000 people will gather in 30 communities across Ontario on Sunday, October 6, 2013 to help create a future without breast cancer.
The 22nd annual Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure is Canada’s largest single-day, community-driven fundraising event supporting breast cancer research, education and advocacy programs.
In Sault Ste Marie alone, more than 600 participants will unite at the Roberta Bondar Pavilion.
Ellie Love, Run Director says “We are so excited to have our community out on this day to show their dedication to such an important cause. So many people are affected by this disease and that is why we will be running and walking on October 6. The funds raised at this event will allow us to invest more in innovative breast cancer research”
The first CIBC Run for the Cure, held in Toronto’s High Park in 1992, drew 1,500 participants and raised $83,000.
Last year, more than 60,000 Ontarian’s participated, raising close to $13 million.
Of that, close to $106,000 was raised by over 600 participants in Sault Ste. Marie.
