ALGOMA DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
In June 2013, the Algoma District School Board approved placing both Aweres Public School and Etienne Brule Public School under Accommodation Review. Superintendent Asima Vezina provided an update.
The review for Aweres Public School will focus on the possibility of school closure, accommodating the JK-8 program and students currently housed at Aweres Public School in nearby existing elementary schools for September 2014.
The review for Etienne Brule Public School will focus on the possibility of school closure, accommodating the JK-3 program and students currently housed at Etienne Brule Public School in nearby existing elementary schools for September 2014.
With the Trustees’ approval of the identification of Aweres and Etienne Brule as “Under Review Status” the next steps include the Board appointing a local Accommodation Review
Committee (ARC) for each school. The Board approved the local ARC for both Aweres and Etienne Brule Public Schools at Tuesday night’s Board meeting.
Aweres Public School Local ARC will consist of the following individuals:
Chair of School Council - Sheryl Evans-Price
A Community Member - Michael Spendick
Municipal Representative - Kim Hiiemaa
Principal - Stephen Patterson
Staff member - Brenda Gregoire
Superintendent - Kime Collver
Etienne Brule Public School Local ARC will consist of the following individuals:
Parent Representative - Jennifer Vardy
A Community Member - Pamela Rayment
Municipal Representative - Lou Turco
Principal - Janice Dolcetti
Staff member - Sharon Crigger
Superintendent - Brenda O’Neill
Four public information meetings are required as part of the process.
The first of these four meetings has been set for Monday, September 30, at 6 p.m. and will take place at the respective schools (Aweres and Etienne Brule).
Public Consultation is a vital step and requires input from a range of school and community members.
The intent of the Public consultation meetings is to include the full involvement of an informed, local community.
The remaining three meetings will be confirmed and notice of these meetings will appear on the board’s website at www.adsb.on.ca under Facility Studies. Minutes and agendas for each of these meetings will also appear on our website.
