Welcome to our weekly recap of the week that was in local sports.
Hockey continues to take centre stage around town. The Soo Thunderbirds regular season opened up this week and the Greyhounds have played a pair of exhibition games. It was the GNML's Soo North Stars that took the hockey headlines this week though

The Soo North Stars were in the news this week and not for a reason they wanted to be there for, announcing a one-year leave from the Great North Midget League.
The Soo Thunderbirds opened the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League season with a home game against North Bay.
Greyhounds goaltender Matt Murray left for the Pittsburgh Penguins rookie camp having signed with the NHL team.
The Greyhounds also announced this week, the signing of a player.
The Soo Thunder played in their first tournament of the season.
Labour day Monday saw the baseball season wrap up locally.
The high school football season has opened up with the annual East/West showdown.
The stock car racing season wrapped up locally over the weekend with the Ted Brooks Memorial.
