Labour Day Celebration planned for Bondar Pavilion (updated)Saturday, August 31, 2013 by: SooToday.com Staff
The Sault Ste. Marie and District Labour Council contacted us with a request to remind our loyal visitors of a free event it's hosting this weekend.
As reported earlier by SooToday.com, the Steelworkers Union inflatables will be available for kids at the Labour Day celebration, but it's that and so much more.
12 Locals, including the United Steelworkers, Canadian Union of Public Employees, Ontario Publice Service Employees Union and the Canadian Auto Workers have come together to bring Sault and area families a Labour Day celebration they won't soon forget, says Pierre J. Verhelst, Sault Ste. Marie and District Labour Day Celebration event coordinator.
"Not everyone is able to go away this weekend so we wanted to give families something fun to do to celebrate Labour Day," he said.
The Motorcycle Show & Shine will feature at least one new category - scooter/electric two, three and four-wheel class - and will included the annual parade of shiny motorcycles.
Marvin the Marvelous will be roving through the crowds to entertain people and there will be cotton candy, baloon animals and face painting available on the site at the Bondar Pavilion and Marina.
Entrance to the event is free.
Here's what the Council had to say about the event.
Recognizing 54 years as “The Voice of Organized Labour” the Sault Ste. Marie and District Labour Council, affiliates and stakeholders will mark Labour Day by inviting the public and calling all Labour Union members to a free workers appreciation family and friends event at the Roberta Bondar Park and Pavilion on Monday September 2.
This year’s theme is “Together fairness works!”
The Motorcycle Show & Shine event will once again be hosted by the local Ironworkers Motorcycle Club with People’s Choice awards and prizes for the top show bikes including the “Scooter / Electric” two, three and four wheel class.
Show & Shine participants must register between 9 and 11 a.m. to show off their rides in the Labour Solidarity Rally to kick-off the day’s events at 11:20 a.m. beginning from the Bondar Pavilion parking lot, east on Foster Drive continuing on Russ Ramsay Way, north on Brock, west on Queen, south on Elgin and back. Rally participants are invited to gather at 11 a.m.
Following this, Labour will provide family fun activities beginning at noon with free food and refreshments by “M&M’s Barbecue Crew”, the “Steelworkers Inflatable Fun Carnival”, balloon art by the Balloon Man, face painting, cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones, a fish pond and the Easy KiSS Events Cruiser will be onsite.
Also, be prepared to be amazed, astounded and entertained by Marvin the Magician, an energetic performer from the Sault who will bring his unique brand of illusion, balloon twisting and wacky entertainment for young and old alike.
