Fatal collision on Albert Street at Spring Street (update)Thursday, August 29, 2013 by: SooToday.com Staff
The investigation into the fatal MVC from Wednesday evening is ongoing with a post mortem taking place this afternoon at the Sault Area Hospital.
At this time no charges are anticipated and the investigation will continue under the authority of the Coroner.
At the request of the next of kin the Sault Ste Marie Police Service will not be releasing the identity of the deceased.
The accident involved a SUV being driven by a 33-year-old male and a motorcycle being driven by a 44-year-old female.
Initial investigation has revealed that the motorcycle, which was southbound on Spring Street, failed to yield to the SUV which was eastbound on Albert Street.
The driver of the motorcycle was transported by ambulance to the Sault Area Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
It is not believed that speed or alcohol were factors in this collision.
The investigation by officers with Traffic and Forensic Services is ongoing with a post mortem scheduled for sometime today.
The name of the deceased is being withheld until notification of next of kin has been completed.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision which occurred last evening at the intersection of Albert Street East and Spring Street.
The accident involved a motorcycle and an SUV. Officers with Traffic Services are continuing their investigation and more information will be provided when is becomes available.
The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
SooToday.com has received a tip that a collision between a motorcycle and an SUV occurred around 10:30 p.m. this evening.
Police have confirmed that the collision resulted in a fatality but there are few details about it available at this time.
A few blocks of the downtown area were closed while Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Traffic Services investigated the collision.
Spring Street was closed between Wellington and Queen Streets.
Albert Street between March and Spring Streets was also closed.
SooToday.com's Donna Hopper was on the scene and reports a heavy police presence with at least five police vehicles at about 11 p.m.
At that time the wrecked motorcycle was on the ground at the corner of Albert and Spring Streets.
