Welcome to our weekly recap of the week that was in local sports.
The past seven days saw hockey take centre stage around town as tryouts began on several fronts while the Soo Greyhounds were in the news as well, for good reasons, ahead of their training camp this week.

After announcing details of their 2013 training camp last week, the Soo Greyhounds unveiled redesigned jerseys for the upcoming season.
Greyhounds forward Sergey Tolchinsky returned to Sault Ste. Marie just over a week ago and signed an NHL contract.
After Jordan Smith got started as the new head coach with a tryout camp that wrapped up on Aug. 17, the Soo Thunderbirds announced a preliminary roster. The team added a pair of players later in the week as well.
