PETERS FOR MICHIGAN
As Peters meets with folks in the Soo & UP, Bart Stupak endorses Peters & praises record fighting for Great Lakes, strong middle class
SAULT STE. MARIE, MI – U.S. Senate candidate Gary Peters is taking his “Michigan First” Listening tour to the UP this week with a stop in Sault Saint Marie at Island Books and Crafts where he heard about the challenges small businesses face in the Soo.
Since launching his campaign to be an independent voice for Michigan middle class families in the U.S. Senate, Peters has been meeting with folks across Michigan.
Over the weekend, Peters met with small business owners, workers, and families in Escanaba, held a meet and greet at the UP State Fair, and stopped in Marquette yesterday.
Peters said: “On this Michigan First Listening Tour, I want to visit every corner of our great state, and it is critical to hear directly from people in the Soo and the UP about the concerns they have for their family. There’s a reason people are frustrated with Washington because there is too much talking that goes on and not enough listening. I have always believed that the things middle class families struggle with around their kitchen tables should define my fight.”
As Peters continues his listening tour today and this week around the UP, he earned a key endorsement from former Congressman Bart Stupak who represented Northern Michigan and the UP for 18 years.
Stupak hailed Peters’ record as an outspoken champion for the Great Lakes and tireless work advocating for Michigan small businesses and middle class families.
Stupak declared that Peters is the only U.S. Senate candidate who will be an independent voice for Northern Michigan and the UP.
Stupak said: "It is critical that middle class families and small business in Northern Michigan and the UP have a strong independent voice in the U.S. Senate, and I am confident that Gary Peters will be the leader we need in Washington. Gary is dedicated to fighting for our Great Lakes and standing up to special interests to defend our Michigan values. That's our key to a strong future for Northern Michigan and the UP."
In addition to his stop Sault Saint Marie, Peters met with folks in Marquette, Escanaba, Bruce Crossing, Menominee, and St. Ignace.
Already Peters has visited with families and small business owners in Greater Detroit, Saginaw, Flint, Bay City, Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Traverse City.
He encourages people to follow the tour on his website.
Peters is an independent voice for regular Michigan families, leading the fight to rebuild our economy and middle class stronger than ever.
Gary has spent his whole life in Michigan.
At 34, he answered the call to serve and joined the U.S. Navy Reserve, rising to the rank of Lt. Commander.
While going to school at night and working to support his family, Gary built a career as a successful businessman for more than 20 years.
Frustrated by the gridlock in Washington, Gary is standing up to the leaders in both parties to stop wasteful spending and invest in the true engines of Michigan’s economy – small businesses.
He is a tireless advocate for protecting programs like Medicare and Social Security that support a robust middle class.
