Car found in pond. Fatal collision reported in Kirkland Lake

Update - Motor vehicle collision confirmed as fatal

KIRKLAND LAKE - Investigators at the scene of the single motor vehicle collision at Kinross Pond have confirmed that the lone involved person was fatally injured in the collision.

The body of the victim positively identified as Jessica Rae, age 29 of Kirkland Lake, was removed from the vehicle, a 1988 GMC truck brown in colour.

The investigation indicates the truck, being driven by the victim westbound on Taylor Avenue, failed to stop for the rock barrier at the parking area of Kinross Pond.

The vehicle came into collision with a large rock and came to rest submerged upside down in the pond.

An OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator and a Forensic Identification Unit attended the scene and assisted members of the Kirkland Lake OPP Detachment with the investigation.

The investigation into the cause of the collision continues.

Earlier release - Motor vehicle collision under investigation

KIRKLAND LAKE - Members of the Kirkland Lake OPP are presently at the scene of a motor vehicle collision at the west end of Taylor Avenue and Kinross Pond in Kirkland Lake.

A motor vehicle was reported to police submerged near the northeast end shoreline of the pond.

The incident was reported to police at approximately 7 a.m. on July 24, 2013.

Also attending at the scene were the Kirkland Lake Ambulance Services and the Kirkland Lake Fire Department.

The investigation into the cause of the collision continues.
