More than a few Saultites were startled and surprised when the fireworks began last night about 10 p.m.

The fireworks, sponsored by Batchewana First Nation, were to celebrate National Aboriginal Day.

They were originally supposed to take place on Friday, June 21, but were rained out so the twin Saults and area were treated to a first-rate showing of fireworks on Saturday instead.

The impressive display lasted a long time and delighted people who came out of their homes to watch.
