Huey Lewis will personally mow your lawn (17 photos)

Celebrating 30 years since the release of Sports, Huey Lewis and the News paid a visit last evening to the DreamMakers Theatre in Sault Michigan for a night of nostalgia and 80s fan favourites.

“Thirty years ago there was no Internet, no cell phones, no personal computers, no glasses, no wrinkles, and a lot more hair,” Lewis reminisced.

Joined by original Newsmen Johnny Colla (saxophone, guitar), Bill Gibson (drums) and Sean Hopper (keyboards), Lewis performed Sports in its entirety from the opening heart beats of The Heart of Rock and Roll to his closing cover of Hank Williams' Honky Tonk Blues.

That was the first 42 minutes and included five Top 20 singles.

Lewis plugged the reissue of Sports, a two-disc release which features the digitally remastered version of the 1983 album and a disc of live performances from the 80s.

"I have a special offer for tonight only," Lewis told the capacity audience. "For everyone who buys the new Sports tonight, I will personally mow your lawn."

A kindly offer, indeed, but one we're fairly confident he didn't follow through with.

He did, however, pay a visit to the Kewadin Casino Signatures Lounge following his performance during which he signed autographs and posed for fan photos.

The gesture was slightly less cool than having Huey himself mow your lawn, but pretty satisfying nonetheless.

Coincidentally, up next at the DreamMakers Theatre is Weird Al Yankovic on Thursday, June 13.

'Coincidentally' because in April of this year, Lewis and Yankovic perfectly parodied the iconic "Do you like Huey Lewis and the News?" scene from the cult classic film American Psycho for Funny Or Die.
