City Council congratulates Brad Jacobs curling team 2013 Tim Horton's Brier winner

SAULT STE. MARIE - Mayor Debbie Amaroso and members of City Council extended congratulations to the Brad Jacobs Curling Team - 2013 Tim Hortons Brier Champions at a Civic reception on March 18.

Team Jacobs represented Northern Ontario at this year’s Brier held recently in Edmonton.

Skip Brad Jacobs, third Ryan Fry, second E.J. Harnden, lead Ryan Harnden, and coach Tom Coulterman were presented with official Sault Ste. Marie jackets and a commemorative plaque congratulating them on their impressive achievement. (Alternate Matt Dumontelle, who lives in Sudbury, was unable to attend the function).

Mayor Amaroso spoke proudly of the Sault team: “City Council along with the entire community congratulates Team Jacobs on their Brier win. We are very excited to have the Jacobs Team represent Canada at the upcoming World Men’s Curling Championships. Good luck at the Worlds - we will all be cheering for you!”

The Brad Jacobs Team will leave next week for Victoria, British Columbia to compete as Team Canada at the 2013 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship, along with 11 other teams representing various countries.

Congratulations Team Jacobs and best of luck.

Orazietti congratulates Team Jacobs on winning 2013 Brier

Local curling team moves ahead to compete in World Championships

QUEEN'S PARK - David Orazietti MPP congratulates Brad Jacobs and his team from the Soo Curlers Association on winning the 2013 Canadian Tim Hortons Brier men’s curling championship on March 10, 2013 in Edmonton, Alberta.

“Brad Jacobs and his impressive team of world class curlers have achieved a monumental victory in winning the Brier Championship and I know everyone in Sault Ste. Marie is very proud,” said Orazietti. “I hope that Brad and his teammates will continue their winning streak at the World Championships later this month and I wish them all the best.”

The Brad Jacob’s rink consists of team members, skip Brad Jacobs, third Ryan Fry, second E.J. Harnden, lead Ryan Harnden, fifth Matt Dumontelle and coach Tom Coulterman.

The Jacob rink won its final six games giving skip Brad Jacobs his first Brier championship and the first for Northern Ontario since 1985, the same year that Jacobs was born.

At the Brier championship, Brad Jacobs was also honoured with the Hec Gervais award as playoff MVP. 

In addition, in 2006 Brad Jacobs was a recipient of the Ontario Quest for Gold grant.

The members of Team Jacobs are outstanding role models for curlers across the province and for all Ontarians.  

The world championships are in Victoria, B.C on March 30, 2013.
