Annual spring event postponed. Winter won't leave (photo)

Tuesday, March 19, 2013   by: SooToday.com Staff

SooToday.com has received an interesting e-mail from Tom Pink, in Lake Superior State University's public relations department.

"Due to the weather forecast for the next couple of days, Lake Superior State University is postponing its annual Snowman Burning until noon on Friday, March 22," Tom writes.

"The event was to be held at noon on March 20, which is the first day of spring, but the forecast calls for strong northwest winds for Wednesday and Thursday.

"Friday's weather looks more promising.

"The public is welcome when LSSU and the Eastern Upper Peninsula finally break free of Old Man Winter's grasp at noon on Friday, March 22, on the north side of the Walker Cisler Center."

Shown is last year's Snowman Burning on March 20, 2012 - note the absence of snow.

We ought to have a Groundhog BBQ. Those little liars said we'd have an early spring. Well, tomorrow's the first "official" day of spring and it certainly doesn't look like it !
