To bad there was not a mandatory draft to these young offenders with so much aggression maybe the army could make use of them

thesharr 3/12/2013 9:50:44 AM Report

"Bootcamp"sounds like a great idea.First offense booze,drugs,and any trouble with the law,stealing, vandilizing,and assaults.There,that covers it.
Ms Alotta 3/12/2013 10:31:21 AM Report

Gator: This is where the article describes a tantrum without having to actually use the word: "damaging his grandparent’s apartment by smashing a television and a kitchen table....He then threatened his grandfather with a knife."
If given one word to describe such behavior, what would you use?
good4now 3/12/2013 10:33:57 AM Report

Apprenticeship In Crime Act is the biggest part of the problem.
(Youth Criminal Justice Act)
http://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/pi/yj-jj/ycja-lsjpa/back-hist.html

There are NO Consequences for bad behaviour. By the time the kid is 18 he is already on the road to ruination.

Sure, kids deserve a chance. ONE chance for a reduced sentence, alternative punishment etc. After that, no more breaks. Of course this wont fix everything.
No more lounge around, play X-box "detention centers" Work oriented boot camps for youth. You dont get out after 90 days of bad behaviour, but after significant change is evident AND after 90 days.
90 days in the cedar swamp around Ranger Lake, working to earn fly dope will straighten out any that can be saved.

Hey punk...if you know how to read then read this...you need a beating...regardless of what the politically correct system dictates.

I agree.....put the little B...terd..out in the bush to feed the black flies for a month or so..or early spring when the bears come out..
Studlee 3/12/2013 11:05:28 AM Report

lets all blame it on the bad parenting now, oh wait - make that bad grandparenting, lol.
Studlee 3/12/2013 11:08:26 AM Report

Gator, the word "tantrum" is used in the picture. I'm surprised that Ms Alotta missed that one. LOL We aren't very observant this morning are we?
Nats85 3/12/2013 11:18:37 AM Report

Good grief! BUT this would have been a totally different article IF after the "tantrum" the grandfather slung that little shit around. CAS would have been called in, Grand parent would have been charged etc etc. Ridiculous. Threatening is threatening no matter his age, and besides at 17..YOU KNOW RIGHT FROM WRONG..especially threatening WITH a weapon. I hope he doesn't get scolded and given community hours either..buncha BS. This poor kid doesn't stand a chance at changing if he doesn't suffer the proper consequences for his actions.
seen_your 3/12/2013 11:22:55 AM Report

Meh, I've done worse.
Ms Alotta 3/12/2013 11:25:01 AM Report

I'm surprised I missed that one, too! Thanks for helping, LOL!
Ms Alotta 3/12/2013 11:26:45 AM Report

and I wouldn't be surprised it they give him a free pass to the 'Y' as punishment.
Drmcorpschick 3/12/2013 11:34:57 AM Report

If only they could release the name, the problem would be taken care of
Gater 3/12/2013 11:56:53 AM Report

the word I would use for this behaviour is criminal. A tantrum is what a 2-5 year does .and if not dealt with and allowed to progress .Then they progress into this CRIMINAL...Which still will not likely be dealt with. young offender at best he will get 10 days community service...

A product of society for which we all are responsible to some degree...
jojoe71 3/12/2013 11:57:07 AM Report

I don't think this is a first for this kid. You ever hear the saying " nip it in the bud" Well apparently his parents or care givers never did that. You reap what you sow. :(
Ms Alotta 3/12/2013 11:59:32 AM Report

I can feel my tubes tying themselves...
newcon 3/12/2013 12:12:34 PM Report

@jojo...did the parents walk away from their responsibility leaving an "Old School" Grandparent feeling sorry for his "blood line" and stepping in to help hoping this kid would realize somebody does care?and this is what Gramps gets in return? Mistaking kindness for foolishness really hits a nerve with some people resulting in "the gnashing of teeth". Beatings are in order and it should start with most case workers at the CAS seeing how they're the one's looking to end "family discipline". This is the product of our society...hugs and kum-by-ya anybody?

Prrrrrrr 3/12/2013 12:39:57 PM Report

CAS go when called and they follow government laws.
Some people are on a mission I think! This boy will get help...the knife thing will/should get him an evaluation and the attention he wants!
sitka_archie 3/12/2013 2:20:23 PM Report

When his grandparents pass on and he is left a homeless dreg he'll look back on it all and regret it for the rest of his life. And it will be too late to make amends. He'll get to carry these memories as some of his last moments with some of his most loved family members for the rest of his life and live with it as long as he lives.

Its an excellent punishment, but I think on top of it all he needs a s***-kicking.
JustMe1234567 3/12/2013 3:03:43 PM Report

Why is this kid so angry? Was it the bottles of courage he drank first...or just a raging out of conrol teen?

Not making excuses for the kid at all, but I see a generation of youngins with a lot of anger and rage, and most of them had a horrible upbringing with only one parent, or none. Dumped into the system to fend for themselves.

I can honestly say I had a great upbringing here in the Soo, and I do feel for the vast amount of kids that didn't get that good headstart in life.

just my opinion.
MikeQ 3/12/2013 3:42:35 PM Report

Good thing his grandpa isn't my grandpa, or we'd have one less rebellious teenager in the world... that being said, too bad it wasn't my grandpa ;)
guestwho 3/12/2013 4:04:29 PM Report

Oh come on now please, leave little Johnny be ,he`s a good kid ,he didn`t mean it,he was having a bad day and if gramps would have listened to him and gave him more money for beer this wouldn`t have happened,ya damn gramps!!Now I want a new flat screen and beer money.

Whilst tramping around the jungle this afternoon I was thinking about this entry...as an addendum to my previous comments I think the courts should have these punks read the comment section of this "tabloid" and have them see what society really wants to do with them.

Agreed!
hog.rider 3/13/2013 8:13:04 AM Report

I'm very surprised by these comments. We are talking about a 17 year old where is the compassion that was shown the young woman who " made a mistake and drove intoxicated" have we used up our sympathy, if this young man was drinking perhaps he too made a mistake bc his judgement was impaired. We shouldn't be bullying him on here and name calling we don't know his name but he does and can read these comments. Are we now ranking crimes and criminals, is it okay to attack some criminals on here but not others?? I hope this young man receives help for his issues, we don't know the circumstances of his home life, it's not fair to bash him on here, hopefully sootoday will take the stance they did on the last story....
wynne 3/13/2013 4:04:19 PM Report

Totally agree hog rider,I Really think these comment boxes should be done with,,these people have nothing better to do than sit and hide behind their computer and belittle everyone,,People they know absolutely nothing about,,whether done wrong or not its not our place to bash people in public,,shame on you all,,and big Shame on Soo Today...DISDGUSTED.as I would never belittle anyone in such a manner.
