Tuesday, March 12, 2013 by: SooToday.com Staff

A reader who say's he is "concerned about the pothole problems we have in our city" sent us this photo.
In particular, the writer expresses concern "about what's in the pothole."
It's at the corner of St. George's Ave. and Wellington St. West.

Over_the_hill 3/12/2013 3:49:13 AM ReportI'll take a guess and say that the traffic light trigger aint working no more, for those lights. May or may not be shocking. Weird pothole, for a pothole. I give --- what is it all about? Any other views?
Floyd 3/12/2013 6:31:16 AM ReportWell....what is it?
cutandsplit 3/12/2013 7:09:42 AM ReportDon't hold your breath that the pothole will be fixed, a friend that works at the City received a "possible layoff slip" yesterday due to shortage of work.
old-cat33 3/12/2013 8:30:13 AM ReportLooks like a pull cord for a Life Jacket?
TFinn 3/12/2013 8:33:59 AM ReportLooks like a broken bic pen and it's clip .....so ....get the potholes fixed already.... :-(
Floyd 3/12/2013 8:41:07 AM ReportLife jackets have pull cords?? Wow...I've probably been using it wrong all these years.
curtnass 3/12/2013 8:54:35 AM Reportdoes any one no if the city will replace any damaged tires and wheel there poor road maintance causes
old-cat33 3/12/2013 9:04:55 AM ReportFloyd: LOL.....Well maybe not a life jacket but maybe a life raft?? Work with me here.
PS64 3/12/2013 9:05:47 AM ReportYes but the really surprising part is when you pull the pull cord, a jet motor starts in the life jacket to propel you to shore.
JustMe1234567 3/12/2013 9:36:56 AM ReportLooks like that pothole is flipping us the bird!
My guess- a broken exacto knife?
PS- Drive down Irwin to Nicholas ave..and be prepared to jump right out of your seat and bang your head on the roof of your car...holy pot holes batman! Well the whole corner at Irwin is a mine field of crazy deep pot holes. I think I need a front end alignment after that.
Unkle Kracker 3/12/2013 9:42:13 AM ReportWow, this has nothing to do with the potholes.................
Sam C 3/12/2013 10:13:21 AM ReportI've seen City crews out daily repairing potholes, but at this time of year it is losing battle. Freeze-thaw cycles break the pavement and cause the ground to heave.
As for what's in that pothole, I wonder if the reader who took the picture believes it might be a crack pipe? To me it simply looks like a few random objects that ended up caught in the pothole.
chichismom 3/12/2013 10:22:20 AM Reportok, i have no idea what the things are in the pot hole... maybe the concerned reader who took the photo can fill us in?
guestwho 3/12/2013 10:29:51 AM Reportpvc piping with low voltage wiring or no voltage wiring?? not buried to code if so.
Studlee 3/12/2013 11:14:30 AM ReportIf the writer actually wrote something, where the duck is it?
newcon 3/12/2013 11:58:22 AM ReportLet me guess...somebody (with lots of time on their hands) was leaving (fleeing)the "Mall" and while texting they activated the shutter switch on their mobile device resulting in this very controversial photo. I'm sure NASA would love to see it...and then CBC could distract it's (1.5%)viewing audience with the facts behind this perplexing photo.

browl 3/12/2013 12:33:49 PM ReportLooks like wiring of some kind to me . Doesnt look that safe if u ask me
karebear 3/12/2013 12:39:26 PM Reportlooks like a broken epi pen
Floyd 3/12/2013 1:09:01 PM ReportJust how big is this pothole? Is that a whole telephone pole in there?
opinionated 3/12/2013 2:12:36 PM ReportLike someone said - it looks like the ground loop / sensor at a stop light (senses if there is a car there and interacts with the traffic light in some way).
happy camper 3/12/2013 4:40:43 PM ReportTo cutandsplit : what do you mean lay them off.SHORTAGE OF WORK there must be a MILLION pot holes out there . Have you seen the CRATER at the bridge on wallace terrace ! Put out more crews if they have to.
Over_the_hill 3/12/2013 6:11:58 PM ReportI think you win the prize "opinionated." See the first repondant. Not a good installation job but probably not dangerous. Those two free pieces may be parts or just extras to make the picture more real.
j.r.98 3/12/2013 7:54:11 PM ReportIt is a pen, cheap super glue and ?.... It is just garbage in a pothole. What concerns me is the comment about someone getting a lay off slip . REALLY? With all those potholes out there one would think the city would be hiring!
I'm In 3/12/2013 10:54:12 PM Reportcurtnass: The city will not cover any damage to your vehicle/tires if you drive through a pothole, I know they told me to prove it or take it to small claims court which wasn't worth paying. I paid the $120.00 for a new tire.
P.S. Just remember to pay your municipal tax increase in 2013 to keep the status quo @ city hall, no accountability there for tax payer money.
CrazyC6992 3/13/2013 1:20:30 AM ReportIt was bigfoot?
