Jacobs rink advances to final

Brad Jacobs has guaranteed a top two finish for Northern Ontario at the 2013 Tim Horton’s Brier in Edmonton.
Jacobs and his Northern Ontario rink defeated Newfoundland’s Brad Gushue 6-5 in 11 ends on Saturday night in the 3v4 page playoff.
With the win, the Jacobs rink – along with lead Ryan Harnden, second E.J. Harnden and third Ryan Fry – have advanced to Sunday’s semi-final.
That’s where Northern Ontario beat Ontario’s Glenn Howard.
Jacobs and Howard met in draw nine with Howard picking up an 8-2 win en route to a 10-1 round robin record.
The Jacobs rink rebounded for a 9-7 win in the semi-final to advance.
The Howard rink opened the tournament with 10 straight wins before dropping three straight, including two playoff matches and will now face the Gushue rink for bronze this afternoon.
Jacobs will face Jeff Soughton’s Manitoba rink in the final this evening.
Stoughton defeated Howard 7-6 in the 1v2 page playoff.
A win by the Jacobs rink would mark the first time a Northern Ontario rink had won the Brier since Al Hackner in 1985.
Soo Curlers Association members are inviting Saultites to join them at the Sault Ste. Marie Curling rink to watch the Brier final, Jacobs vs Stoughton with fellow fans.
Four HD TVs will be showing the game and pizza will be available.
Doors will open at the rink on Anita Boulevard at 7:30 p.m.
