SEARCHMONT SKI RUNNERS

Sizzling slalom marks the end of Provincials at Searchmont

The final race of the U16 provincial championships was a nail-biting event with a difficult technical course on challenging terrain.

Exciting to watch, there were gates straddled, spectacular falls and many personal bests.

The women’s podium was led by Stephanie Currie from Osler Bluff with a combined time of 1:25.25.

Silver went to Jessica Mackay of Craigleith at 1:26.10, and bronze for Rachel Clarke of the National Ski Academy with a time 1:26.61.

Searchmont’s Alexis Mezzomo led the club’s performances today with a 19th place finish, while Avery Marcoux placed 25th and Lindsay Virene in 27th.

Abigail Wolfe and Chianti Brown both came across difficulties on the challenging race course, and did not finish the race despite determination and courage.

The men’s race was won by Corey McConville from Devil’s Glen in 1:17.92; the silver went to Max McVey from the National Academy with a time of 1:18.81 and the bronze to Max Michelin in 1.19.55.

Matthew Farrell led the Searchmont men’s team with a 39th place finish.

Nick Cantarutti and Chandler Simpson ran into some tough conditions on the course, and did not finish even with giving it their best effort.

Brad Lashley, technical director for Alpine Ontario and the Referee for the race has high praise for the race.

“The Race Organizing Committee from the Searchmont Ski Runners in Northern Ontario run events like the Sporting Life U16 Championships at the highest standard” he says. “This standard is achieved with an intangible element, which can only be described as Northern Ontario pride.”

He looks forward to returning to Searchmont for future events.
