Walter Gretzky, Curtis Joseph and more in the Sault March 22

Thursday, March 07, 2013   by: Donna Hopper

Sault hockey fans of all ages are invited to the Essar Centre on Friday, March 22 for an unforgettable evening as the NHL Alumni Association and Scotiabank host the annual Law Enforcement All-Stars vs NHL Alumni charity game in support of Special Olympics Ontario.

Returning to this year's event is game ambassador, special guest coach, and world famous hockey dad, Walter Gretzky.

As a special treat for hockey enthusiasts, former Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers goaltender, and 2002 Olympic gold-medalist, Curtis Joseph (AKA Cujo, pictured), will be part of the NHL Alumni team roster.

Cujo has the most career wins (454) of any goaltender in NHL history who never played on a Stanley Cup-winning team.

Other players slotted to join the team in Sault Ste. Marie include Rick Vaive, Todd Harvey, Reggie Leach, Jeff Toms, Denny Lambert, and brother to Wayne and Keith Gretzky, Brent Gretzky.

Participating as the game's guest referee, Dave Hutchison - reportedly one of the toughest defensemen to ever play in the NHL - posted 1735 penalty minutes in 584 career games while playing with Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto and New Jersey.

Tickets for this charity event are $22 each and may be purchased here

Didn't expect many blogs on a story like this, not many SooToday readers are sports types, or fans. Anyway, good to hear they are coming to the Soo. Will be a fun night out for many.
