The Senate? Scrap it, Hughes and NDP say

OTTAWA – The best way to fix the Senate is to abolish it, according to Carol Hughes.
The MP for Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing delivered a strong attack on the unaccountable, publicly funded, upper chamber during debate on a New Democrat motion to abolish the Senate.
“When we speak about the Senate I think it is important to consider the incredible disconnect that most Canadians have with the institution,” said Hughes. “Most people couldn’t name the Senator that represents their region.”
Hughes spoke to the limited role of Senators, who receive handsome public salaries with no assurance they are even representing the area they are supposed to champion.
“They are funded similarly to Members of Parliament, yet have none of the public responsibilities that elected officials do, said Hughes. “Unlike MPs, who, if they are doing their jobs conscientiously, are a presence in their communities, Senators are ghosts – mere notions of representatives at best.”
Hughes notes that the recent bad press some Senators have received is deserved and not surprising given the climate of austerity that has seized the country.
She feels that Canadians expect fair value from their politicians and the Senate is failing miserably on that account.
“It is no wonder the Senate is under the microscope,” said Hughes. “Across the country people are continually being told they will have to make do with less while these party lapdogs shower themselves in entitlements. How is that fair? How is that democratic?"

I could go on at length re. this matter but I will spare everybody the misery of a political education...but nobody used the Senate to their advantage more than the corrupt liberal government (especially cretian)and if the ndp communists had their way (which they never will)they would abuse the Powers of the Senate to an extent that we've never seen...as in steal from the Rich and give to the useless, and neglect the truly needy.

There was that one senator that spent his whole time in Mexico,now there in the news Like Pamela Walins and Mike Duffy for lying about where they live to get large Tax write offs and travel expenses.
How can a "unelected" do nothing Senator rack up $350.000K in travel expenses in one year?
Thats only one of many because she was caught.

There's no way a "democracy" can allow a party with only 37% of the popular vote run away with a majority government. Nor should that same government be allowed to muzzle party members from speaking the opinions of the people who elected them and whom they're supposed to represent.

If you graduated from high school, you must have learned to use words like there, their, a, an, your, and you're, in their proper context. I think danno meant to say this (I have capitalized the spelling and grammar corrections and made some other notes along the way as well):
YOU'RE a brain dead LOSER with no brains at all. (I still haven't figured out how someone can be brain dead if they don't have a brain at all, but anyway...I will remove the "and" to start a new sentence. We want to avoid run-ons, no?)
To support the P.C. GOVERNMENT you must have or should HAVE lots of cash. (I will remove the "and" to begin a new sentence because the next statement has nothing to do with the previous statement. It is a new thought, though surely not a novel one.) You are COMPLETELY lost. (Again, I'll remove the next "and" to start fresh for the big finish.)
Harper apppointed most of the senate (actually, he appointed 41% but I agree that is too many) so EVERYTHING would get PASSED. (I added the period.) What a waste.
I DON'T think YOU'RE bright enough to be rich unless you RECEIVED an INHERITANCE. (It pained me to correct that last sentence because, in its original format, it was truly a beautiful thing.)
Now, danno, perhaps before you post your next criticism of Newcon's points of view you should type it into some sort of program which offers a "spell check" feature. I am afraid your comments will hardly be taken seriously if you come across as someone who is uneducated. I honestly don't believe you are an ignorant person...just a realllllly bad speller. And granted, good spelling and grammar are not necessarily fair indicators of a person's level of intelligence. Just look at me. On the other hand, poor spelling and grammar are not going to help if you are entering into a battle of wits with Newcon.
