March is National Nutrition Month and Algoma Public Health wants to get families cooking together!
Many of us with children find ourselves doing things for our kids (even when we know we should be teaching them how to do it themselves) because it helps to save time in our busy lives, or reduces some stress – for ourselves and our kids.
Now is the perfect time to look at our lives and make empowering our children a priority, particularly in the area of cooking.
Lindsay Fera, public health dietitian at Algoma Public Health, says that “kids who are involved in food preparation are more likely to try new foods, eat better (including more of those important veggies and fruit) and are more confident in the kitchen, now and in the future.”
Learning to tie your shoes is an important life skill.
We think cooking is too.
Algoma Public Health is excited to announce our 2013 Families in the Kitchen Photo and Recipe Contest.
Upload a picture of your family either preparing, or displaying the finished product of your favourite kid-friendly recipe, along with the recipe, onto the Families in the Kitchen Recipes Photo and Recipe Contest found on the Algoma Public Health Facebook Page for a chance to win some great prizes, including a family iPad!
Visit here or “Like” us on Facebook for more information.
Submissions will be accepted until March 22, 2013.
