Mantha looking forward to answers in Elliot Lake inquiry
QUEEN’S PARK - NDP Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Michael Mantha said he’s pleased the public inquiry into the roof collapse of the Algo Centre Mall in Elliot Lake has begun and hopes the community will finally get some answers.
“The people of Elliot Lake are strong and resilient, and look out for one another,” said Mantha. “We owe it to the families and friends of Lucie and Doloris, and our community to finally get answers to this tragedy so we can make sure it doesn’t happen again. Today is the first step in getting those answers.”
Mantha said it’s important to examine both the events leading up to the collapse and after.
“We need to look at the role of the Ministry of Labour, the government’s response and communications, and the rescue operations,” said Mantha. “We need to know what contributed to the incident, how it was dealt with and what steps have been taken to protect and improve our emergency response system to prevent future tragedies.”

right wing 3/4/2013 5:23:24 PM ReportI'm sure everybody is so glad he is pleased.
The NDP will use anything to stand on a soapbox.
SandyB 3/4/2013 6:33:16 PM ReportActually Right Wing.. he was there and stood with us.. Supported us.
More human kindness than anything else..
right wing 3/4/2013 8:03:01 PM ReportWell that is great SandyB...good on his part at the time.
With all due respect, IMO, any politician stating the obvious about a process that has just begun is simply grandstanding and is not worthy of a "news story".
“We need to look at the role of the Ministry of Labour, the government’s response and communications, and the rescue operations,” said Mantha. “We need to know what contributed to the incident, how it was dealt with and what steps have been taken to protect and improve our emergency response system to prevent future tragedies.”
...that is what is now under way..I look forward to your comments when it has concluded.
jojo12345 3/5/2013 2:37:27 AM Reportthey should get a new Mayor and some help from the Government
SandyB 3/5/2013 8:22:08 AM Reportright wing .. hate to seem to always be disagreeing with you.. but..
I'm rather pleased this was put out.. There are so many rumours going around.. so many conflicting 'facts'.. hard to know. We don't ever want all that happened and who needs to be held accountable to be forgotten..
I am up on what is going on cuz this is my new home and i am a safety specialist.. so this is in my heart.
You are up on what is going on because you take the time to be informed on issues.. not everyone is as the two of us.
newcon 3/5/2013 10:04:28 AM Report100% Right Wing. The left has no answers for anything only critisizm with respect to how much revenue isn't being confiscated from those employed in the Private Sector and given to those dependant on the social system or employed in the public sector (same thing).
There's more to the Elliot Lake disaster than Mantha is capable of comprehending.

SandyB 3/5/2013 12:05:00 PM ReportBut newcon.. it isn't his job to 'understand' what is happening in Ellot Lake. It is his job to keep his constituents informed as to what is happening in Elliot Lake.
His job was to push for this inquiry to happen, which he did.
You can have a ranting hate-on for the party if you like.. doesn't change the facts..
you two make me giggle :)
newcon 3/5/2013 5:59:28 PM ReportNo Sandy you're just in the dark about a number of things. It was "politics" and useless politicians that interfered with what was supposed to be a rescue.
Newcon
SandyB 3/6/2013 9:01:29 AM Reportdayum Newcon.. you are cute :)
Norm 3/8/2013 9:09:59 AM ReportMantha seemed a bit guarded in his comments. From MCTV news last night, it seemed like warnings about the mall been unsafe were not addressed. Maybe Mantha can't say much about the real cause when it's in the inquiry process. Politics can be a strange and fickle world at the best of times.
