NEWS RELEASE

CANADIAN BLOOD SERVICES

*************************
Rally your friends and family and donate for March break

March 1, 2013 (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) - March break is fast approaching and whether people are preparing to hit the slopes or the beach that week, Canadian Blood Services is asking Canadians to check off one last thing on their to-do list.

After booking your travel, Canadian Blood Services is encouraging residents to take a few extra moments to make one more call and book an appointment to give blood.

Give…. before you go. And know that while you’re away, a patient in need is being helped thanks to your donation.

For those staying in town, what about rallying your family and friends to donate together at a clinic near you?

It often takes many people to save one life, and collectively, one small individual act like donating blood can have a big impact on someone’s life.

In Sault Ste. Marie, we forecast a need to collect 240 units of blood to help meet patient and hospital demand this March.

The demand for blood and blood products will continue to grow and to meet Canada’s future blood needs we must encourage more Canadians to become regular blood donors now.

The fact remains that hospital patients everywhere need blood in all seasons.

A car accident victim, for example, can need up to 50 units of blood to help save them, which translates to 50 blood donations needed to help that one patient.

Leukemia patients can need as much as eight units of blood per week as part of their treatment.

Below are the details of the March blood donor clinic scheduled in Sault Ste. Marie:

Verdi Hall, 455 Queen Street
Tuesday, March 12th from 4 – 8 p.m.
Wednesday, March 13th from 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and 4 – 7 p.m.

Go online at www.blood.ca or call 1 888 2 DONATE (1 888 236 6283) to book an appointment or to obtain information about eligibility or the donation process.
