The North East Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) sponsored this powerful and moving French film because it explores themes of physical and mental loss, the experience of caring for a loved one, and aging.

Elaine Pitcher, the North East LHIN Board chair and Sault resident, will be on hand to open the film and welcome the audience on Saturday morning.

“Shadows of the Mind Film Festival has been a key touchstone here in the Sault for 14 years, providing an important opportunity to raise awareness on mental health issues through film,” said Pitcher. “As a LHIN we have been sponsoring French language films at the festival as a way to also serve the needs of our Francophone residents.”

Making mental health and substance abuse treatment services more accessible is one of the NE LHIN’s four priorities as outlined in our recently released three-year strategic plan.

The plan also focuses on the needs of seniors, as here in the North East we are greying at a faster rate than the rest of the population, with 18 percent now 65 years and older.

Amour tells the story of Georges and Anne, in their eighties, who are retired music teachers.

Their daughter, also a musician, lives abroad with her family.

One day, Anne has a stroke.

What follows severely tests the bonds of love of the couple.

Where Does a LHIN get money to sponsor a movie if it is indeed a financial sponsorship.
This is not what the tax dollar should be put toward.

LHINs are arms-length from the government.
IB-fine 3/1/2013 12:52:57 PM Report

LHIN isn't arms length from the gov't!
It's funded by the Ontario government and now is making a subsidiary to manage all mental health and addiction places in Algoma. We get to be the guinea pig for this brilliant idea!

Which means instead of an organization dealing just with the Ministry of Health, it now has to deal not only with the LIHNs and before that the Mental Health/Addiction LIHNs.

Talk about a waste of taxpayer money!
Fund 2 bureaucracies instead of just dealing straight with the Min. of Health!

Funding a movie night is just a PR stunt to make it look like a great idea to have the LIHNs in the first place!

What a load of crap! and a waste of my money!
