Apparently, Sootoday chose to make a joke of this that I'm sure the merchants of Gore St. will not find too funny.
K-Nish 2/26/2013 8:15:50 AM Report

but it's apt, there nothing worse in this city than the stain that is gore
Prrrrrrr 2/26/2013 8:16:18 AM Report

It's true tho...
SuzyyQ 2/26/2013 8:16:32 AM Report

@ Point Blank....what joke are you referring to ? Addresses of the offenders need to be posted in order to identify the person in the event there are more than one person with the same name.
JustMe1234567 2/26/2013 8:31:23 AM Report

Well done Sootoday I'm with ya on this one
I wouldn't want Simba to go there either!
nicole1414 2/26/2013 8:39:07 AM Report

Sootoday is starting to remind me of Fox News...

Thought you had more class than this.

There is a lot going on in this city. Maybe focusing on things other than crime would be a nice change.

Stevie-E 2/26/2013 8:45:06 AM Report

There's businesses on Gore Street? Yeah, and I am sure they are paying top dollar for taxes and rent too. You choose to have a business and have it in one of the sketchiest places in town, you will need to live with that stigma. Sorry.

Now to all the politicians and lawmakers that represent us, time to start cleaning up our city, including tossing the scumbags away for longer than a few months!

Speeding around the streets at 2:30AM while drunk.
Only good news is there nobody out there at that time to run over or hit except for other thieves or drunk drivers.
Nats85 2/26/2013 10:31:22 AM Report

lol I thought the whole Lion King cartoon at the top was funny..I agree there's a stigma attached to Gore Street so if businesses take offence maybe they should try and change their location...unless they enjoy having the close access to the self solicitors that way.. :S
MikeQ 2/26/2013 10:42:55 AM Report

Cartoon is hilarious. You people need to lighten up. If someone had been killed, then yeah, no cartoons... but some idiot got caught doing idiotic things, no harm no foul.
SooToday Moderator 2/26/2013 10:58:48 AM Report

Alright, alright, alright!

SooToday complaints department is now closed, we switched out the cartoon on the above article.

You may now continue with your life.

Thanks, and sorry for anyone we offended.

A little reminiscing....Gore St. back in the fifties and sixties... you could smell the popcorn fresh from the princess theatre...the place to meet all my buddies on a saturday afternoon.. or flirt with the girls.... or maybe watch the movies...always a double feature and a cartoon....Ely's pool hall...Cleto's Pizza ...was the best...Piner's Grill.. their specialty beverage was called turky sandwich was ..75 cents.... princess grill...Uneeda Cab...gore st bowling lanes... the pin boys would reset the pins by hand... Royal Hotel on the corner... for the big boys...ladies and escorts had their own ladies allowed...I know that sounds kinda gay now :) just to mention a few...Alas today it is just a shadow of the glory a tired worn out old dog. Time to put it out of it's misery...Like a line from that old classic song...Tobacco the Nashville teens...." bring dynamite and a crane....blow it up start it over again " :( :(
Just Curious 2/26/2013 11:29:17 AM Report

Soo today moderator, have you not figured out yet you are gonna pee somebody off no matter what you print??? Stick with the funny stuff, after all, that's what your site states..."We do news differently."( Besides,I was late getting on and missed it). If people can't take a joke they can go to the "other site". :).
en4cer81 2/26/2013 11:58:58 AM Report

I missed the picture...was it the one with Simba from Lion King asking whats that dark spot over there and his dad saying thats Gore Street Simba, you must never go there????

Thats hilarious.

I say repost it and let the people whine and will keep them coming back, increase your clicks per page, which in turn you can use to sell advertising.

Seriously, who goes to Gore Street besides owners of used car dealerships and meth heads?

People need to stop sitting around their computers looking for something to be offended by then wasting their time complaining about it...seriously, get out and do something positive for your community for once.
SooToday Moderator 2/26/2013 12:52:00 PM Report

en4cer81- Yes that was the one!

We got plenty of calls from offended viewers that had some very good points, and we hate the phone (being computer nerds and all) so all the staff took a vote to either leave it, or take it down.

Take it down won.

But in all seriousness, in the history of the Sault, Gore St. was considered the `tracks` anyone west of Gore was looked at as second class, less than, undesirable.

East of Gore was good, west of Gore was bad.

Many of our parents and grandparents went through some hard times back in the day because of this mindset, and we don`t need to stir up those old hard feelings again.

That was not our intent when using the cartoon, but many thought it was.

Next we were waiting for Disney to call and give us heck too.

Don`t worry tho, I`m sure SooToday will do something offensive to many again before the week is out.
Drmcorpschick 2/26/2013 1:21:24 PM Report

gore street would make an awesome parking lot and also get rid of all the crime in that area. But that would only mean someplace else would become the 'new' gore st
Just Curious 2/26/2013 1:41:20 PM Report

@ moderator;
So you are saying both of you decided to take it down...LOL...Keep up the good work.. You should know by the amount of calls what your readership is and anybody that can't take a joke shouldn't own a computer. Bill Gates hasn't quit laughing in years...:)

hmmm I lived west of Gore
SaultJammer 2/27/2013 6:48:57 AM Report

I remember Gore St. back then in the 70's and even into the early 80's as you do from the 50's and 60's, and yes it was a busy-happy street back then and there was a lot to do. I also used to go to Ely's Pool Hall all the time and play foosball or pinball in the small alcove at the front of the pool hall during our (spare) from classes at Lakeway. We'd eat (for real cheap) across the street at the Princess Grill if we had a double spare or go 5 pin bowling upstairs at Centennial Lanes or like you also said take in a Saturday double-feature matinee at the Princess Theater which did indeed include at least 1 cartoon (usually a Peanuts short featuring Snoopy). Everybody was friendly and helpful and cared about each other-then. Now your lucky if you don't get mugged in the middle of the day by some wacked-out drug addict or crack-head!

It's a shame that things went as they did in that area. There are a lot of good memories from back then...
