ODSP calls landlord, doesn't end well for Joyce

Tuesday, February 26, 2013   by: Staff

On February 25, 2013 at 2:40pm Amanda Joyce MacEachern age 25, of 1713 Queen Street East, was arrested for uttering forged documents.

It is alleged that on September 14, 2012 the accused attended the Ontario Disability office and attempted to turn in a rent receipt apparently signed by the landlord.

A call was made to the landlord and it was found that no rent money was received and the landlord did not sign any receipt.

The accused will appear in court on April 8, 2013 at 9:00am.

O.D.S.P. recipients rent, groceries and staples should be paid out in debit cards only redeemable by registered landlords and vendors thereby restricting the usage and waste of cash!Welfare should be a stop gap not a life style except for the very needy and truly disabled.

"Nimrod" you are far from a Nimrod!!!! I have been saying this for years. The "cash for life" train of welfare and ODSP that so many people are on that dont need to be is railroading this country into the ground!!! Funny thing is we are teaching everyone that money comes free at no cost and if you find you dont have enough for your cell phones, booze and drugs, just break into a house or hold a gun to the head of someone working at Wal Mart and take what you want. Its way past time for reform to the system and while we are at it fix the badly broken court system that protects these people with a small slap on the wrist!

So true

Tom_Bom 2/26/2013 5:51:29 PM Report

I don't agree with the woman's actions, but i also don't condone the discrimination against people on ODSP, automatically assuming that everyone is like this woman. Far from it.

Harping on people on welfare is one thing, but disabled people? Come on guys. Grow up.

Again, I don't condone this womans actions, but you should see how intrusive ODSP already is with the people who need it. There is no need to demonize the people that want to work, but cannot. It is not a person's fault that they are disabled and need to rely on ODSP.

Harp on the welfare people instead. But leave the people with life crippling medical conditions alone.

Not everybody on OW abuses the system either! Most people would rather not live on the meager funds provided by OW... And to those who think debit cards taken by only landlords and some merchants, you are naive if you think that solves the problem, people who abuse it will find new innovative ways to abuse it regardless of how funds are given out... Drug dealers will accept the debit cards etc....our tax dollars are abused and wasted at every turn, public servants abuse the system, politicians, teachers, the list goes on and on, people like Joyce are just a drop in the bucket compared to the others

I agree with several commentators on here. We need to get the abusers off the system and off their lazy asses. I know several people that are deliberately defrauding our local government for social assistance such as welfare and ODSP. Those 2 organizations need to do some serious deep-diving into their 'clients' and weed-out the defrauders and fakers. I'm tired of paying for some lazy SOB's drugs and drinking habits through my work taxes and city property taxes. I've been working for over 30 yrs so far and i'm sick to death with the amount of BS that welfare recipients get away with! Welfare is supposed to only be short-term! - not for life! I know of a person who has been collecting welfare for over 15 years! and the best part is that his girlfriend lives with him yet claims welfare at a different location! Together they have 4 children all about 2 yrs apart. He claims 2 and she claims 2 so that they can get the maximum out of welfare. AND they openly laugh at the system for this! So if you figure out how much they collect together defrauding the government, it's more than i earn in a year of working 40hrs/per and i make well over 30K/yr.! WAKE UP Social Assistance! Stop giving welfare to people for more than 3 yrs. In that time (3 yrs) a person can get an education and become a productive member of our local society. Your not helping by ignoring the fact that if you keep giving financial support with no expectations these people will just keep on taking it with no expectations! Start making people earn their assistance! I do realize that their are some people that are genuine and really do need the assistance and that's fine. There are a lot of single mothers that cannot afford to go to school and pay a sitter. or a person that is incapable of working. There are people that due to a physical or mental disability will never be able to work. These are the people that really need assistance and should receive it. Welfare and ODSP should look into requesting additional federal assistance for such things as paid-for schooling and paid-for sitters (certified by the government). I know that i would gladly give extra taxes towards programs such as these if i knew it was going to get a mother and her children off welfare in a just a couple of years or a father retrained and employed in a new career. It would eventually work out for the better all around. Less people on welfare and social assistance = more employed people = more wages earned = more monies spent in the community = stronger and more stable local infrastructure. Therefore it = more self-dignified people = less crime!

The ignorance of the people who post here never ceases to amaze me.
