Hamilton resident claims $16.1 million lottery jackpot
Prize claim subject to insider win process
TORONTO - Myungsu You of Hamilton is one step closer to claiming his lottery win of the $16.1 million jackpot from the Lotto 6/49 draw on June 30, 2012.
Mr. You's winning ticket shared the $32 million jackpot with another winning ticket from Brantford, which was claimed on July 4, 2012.
As Mr. You is the owner of an OLG retail location in Hamilton, this prize falls within OLG's definition of an Insider Win.
OLG retailers are prohibited from playing the lottery at their place of work.
Mr. You's ticket was purchased at Metro Centre Mall on Barton St in Hamilton.
This prize claim has completed the first step of a two-step Insider Wins process.
An independent investigation of the claim was undertaken by a third-party, working in partnership with OLG's regulator the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).
To complete the prize claim, the prize will now be held for a 30-day waiting period, starting today February 20, 2013.
This is part of OLG's Insider Wins process, in order to communicate the win to the community through the news media.
If there are no additional claims on this prize, it will be paid to the claimant on March 22, 2013 based on this 30-day wait period.
For more information on Insider Wins, please visit the Winner News Releases page in the Media Centre on OLG.ca.
Ontario lottery players received $1.7 billion in prizes in the 2011/12 fiscal year.
OLG is a provincial agency responsible for province-wide lottery games and gaming facilities.
Since 1975, OLG lotteries, casinos, slots, and resort casinos have generated more than $36 billion for the benefit of the Province of Ontario.
Proceeds from OLG's operations help support Ontario's hospitals, amateur sport through the Quest for Gold program, recreational and cultural activities, communities, provincial priority programs such as health care and education, and local and provincial charities.

steve53000 2/22/2013 10:00:11 AM ReportIt is amazing how many Large insisder wins there are what about 5 or 5plus bonus still a lot of theivery out there
whooligun 2/22/2013 10:23:24 AM ReportAre there a lot Steve? What percentage of wins are insider wins? Have a link???
crashed13 2/22/2013 11:30:58 AM ReportIf the guy did not purchase the ticket at his own store, then it should be a no brainer.
rustyrazor 2/22/2013 11:44:57 AM ReportI can probably think of a number of ways that it could still be an insider win. The most obvious is that the ticket was purchased at the other store and the real winner took it to his store to check if the ticket was a winner.
Or maybe he has an arrangement with the other store owner who keeps the winning ticket and gives it to the other guy and once the heat is off they split the winnings.
bucky5207 2/22/2013 12:06:23 PM ReportMust be nice, since it was the retailers that stole lottery winnings, that they be allowed to buy tickets elsewhere, and a Olg. employee can't buy a ticket anywhere.
moem 2/22/2013 2:03:45 PM ReportRustyrazor....
The computers know exactly where each ticket was sold!! That is why you will often see reports from OLG about winning tickets about to expire and where they were purchased. Guaranteed it's a legit win, but they have protocol to follow.
Northerner61 2/22/2013 3:03:19 PM Report"once the heat is off" PARANOID THINKING
firefly42 2/22/2013 5:17:56 PM ReportOLG asks you where and when you purchased the winning ticket and if you are a lottery retailer or an employee of a lottery retailer you cannot check your tickets where you are employed, so if someone else brought the ticket in to check it, he could not claim the prize.
As for having a friend at another retailer pass off the ticket to him, it might be possible, but they would have to know when and where the ticket was purchased in the first place. That is also why the lottery puts a 30 day hold on the winnings and a media release out there so that anyone who suspects this might be their ticket can come forward.
