C'mon Ricatoni, snow removal here is second to none! Seriously...
big_dog_1113 2/20/2013 1:06:39 PM Report

Harder to remove snow these days, the banks are all 6-8 feet and some higher. It would be nice if the city removed the banks like they used to, when we had a ton less snow.

I know part of life in winter, just a pet peeve seeing that plow coming, dragging all that snow from down the street, just to deposit it in the first open hole. The driveway you just shovelled for the second time in a day lol
charger 2/20/2013 2:23:22 PM Report

C'mon yoyo165, over 24 hours went by before my street was plowed. When I was at work yesterday, I counted the grader going by our work on Second Line 5 times in a span of 30 minutes. Enough with the main streets already. Seriously, do the side streets.
ThinkAgain 2/20/2013 2:53:59 PM Report

Sad when Garbage trucks now simply pass houses without even picking up the trash. They blame it on 1 thing or another as they race down the streets.

Just awhile ago we were taught where to place trash and the blue box but now its out of arms reach, they simply don't pick it up anymore.

The city boards of works in this town need training with snow removal and garbage pickup.
jojoe71 2/20/2013 3:34:39 PM Report

I'm so glad we moved to the country back in the seventies. The taxes are lower; the roads are always plowed and sanded; we have great well water; garbage pick up is available for twenty bucks a month. Never a problem with the service. When I use my snow blower I don't have to worry about my neighbour complaining about putting my snow in his yard. Yes I have heard horror stories from some people who have neighbours from hell. what else can I say :)
flp 2/20/2013 3:36:53 PM Report

Let us use our heads. To have equipment available to meet the needs of a snowfall that has become so rare in the past few years would be irresponsible. So we are inconvenienced for a day or two, It sounds like we are a little spoiled.
Think of those Newfoundlanders and how they accept it. Unless it was a matter of life or death , be thankful for what we have.
mixerman55 2/20/2013 3:37:29 PM Report

Yes the banks are high and dangerous for getting out of your driveway,Last year they were here twice by now and we had less snow. I have not seen them on my street this year yet. They use to have two shifts going. I been around and have not seen them in the day time. They do all the main arteries first but they could do some of the other streets in the day time. I emailed one of the counselors and he said they are backed up from all the snow and are out every night working on them. Maybe its time to put on more shifts don't you think,if we got 41 centimeters we would be screwed plain ans simple.
Hmmm 2/20/2013 3:45:05 PM Report

Icy roads and snowy conditions are the least of Sault Ste. Marie's driving issues. I think it’s appalling how many of our local drivers continue to ignore the laws of the road by texting, talking on their cellphones, and failing to disregard basic traffic signals and speed limits. Stop means Stop, not Yield or ignore totally.
harry dick 2/20/2013 5:05:00 PM Report

people forget very easily. this is a normal amount of snow for us in a winter. we just haven't had a normal winter for a few years.
I think the city board of works is doing a good job considering all the snow that has come our way , in the last month.
keep up the good work boys!!!
Mike58 2/20/2013 5:05:18 PM Report

A little bit of advice... back into your driveway and into parking spots. If you back out and someone hits you, you are in the wrong. It is also easier to see around the snowbanks for children playing.... that is, the few that actually go outside.
candio21 2/20/2013 6:13:43 PM Report

I agree Ricatoni, I live on princess crst right near st. Bernadette school and princess crst and palace were not plowed until last night. You can't tell me that that is safe for all those children. Not only were the rds not plowed, the side walks also weren't plowed. I am less concerned about the fact that I couldn't get out of my parking lot or drive on the rd then I about the children. The ppl who were driving around yesterday were all over the place and lucky they didn't hit my child or any other.
Working Man 2/20/2013 6:24:45 PM Report

The City board of works is kinda slow yeah.

I know how those guys work and trust me, they take it real easy.

Respect has to be earned. That's why nobody respects them.

As for snow removal, I don't really have any complaints personally.
kamen 2/20/2013 8:56:41 PM Report

They just removed many of the snow banks in the last week. McNabb for example only has the snowbanks starting again from yesterdays snowstorm. They must've taken the hint from the garbage day story because not 2 days later, snowbanks were being cut down and taken away. I still cannot say the same thing for side streets, they are still dangerously high, although 3/4 of the sidewalks aren't even plowed on side streets during the winter. I still say they need to plow the roads first and then the sidewalks for the simple fact that one the sidewalks are done and the road plows come by, there are no side walks again. It is very difficult to get to work through that disgusting brown slush that is pushed up from the road. The sidewalk across from Krazy Ernie's was the worst I think. There were no sidewalks and the slush and dirt was ankle deep. They need to walk down the streets after they plow just to see what it is like to be a pedestrian.
Prrrrrrr 2/21/2013 5:24:15 AM Report

I almost lost control of my vehicle on Trunk Rd just before Dacey last night because of the deep ruts...there is no excuse for that...someones going to get killed because of those road conditions.
RLE 2/21/2013 7:28:28 AM Report

How much are you willing to pay in taxes? It seems like some of you would complain because a police office (who was on the way to a shooting call) didn't stop to ticket someone who was illegally parked. Look up the word "Priorities" and kwitchyerbitchin.
