Prrrrrrr 2/17/2013 7:47:51 AM Report

That's about the time I lost ALL my shaw services.
polaris 2/17/2013 8:21:46 AM Report

Thanks PUC, your equipment failure blew the board in my furnace. Thanks!
Just Curious 2/17/2013 8:24:07 AM Report

That's the big thing wrong with Shaw, power goes,so does everything. At least with Bell you always had a phone...
Phillipe 2/17/2013 8:30:24 AM Report

Are there more equipment failures in recent years, or are they just better advertised? Seems like there's a power outage at least once a month. Let me guess, another rate increase to update all the power lines.
K-Nish 2/17/2013 8:37:38 AM Report

The problem is, the majority of the infrastructure is over 50 years old.. well past the life span of the equipment.

And some if it has to be special made, as it's antiquated technology.

a good solar flare will send us back to the stoneage for about 10 years
mudrunner 2/17/2013 8:50:38 AM Report

If the power goes out an you have shaw your phone still works. Don't know were you get the info that it does not work.
Point Blank 2/17/2013 8:53:34 AM Report

Perhaps the PUC should have spent $25-30 million on infrastructure rather than a new building.
As far as Shaw goes...it seems that everything affects their service. My phone, cable and internet haven't been working properly for the past two months! Guess it's time to talk to Bell again.
happy camper 2/17/2013 9:23:45 AM Report

Yes the money would have been better spent on the equipment rather than a new building
proud mom 2/17/2013 10:56:03 AM Report

I have a shaw bundle including cable, internet and phone. I lose it all during power outages, including my phone!
mudrunner 2/17/2013 11:02:49 AM Report

That's funny I never lost my phone in a power out yet with shaw. Guess I must be a preferred customer.
thesharr 2/17/2013 12:31:57 PM Report

Good thing PUC has a new building,so they can stay warm while we have have power outages and watermain breaks.Another empty building on Queen, good planning. The good thing is they're closer to the hospital so when you go to pay your bill and have a heart attack because of the amount, your chances of surviving are greater so they can keep increasing your bill.
JustMe1234567 2/17/2013 12:43:54 PM Report

@ProudMom- perhaps you have a phone that is also plugged into a wall outlet to power it.
Get a basic old land line phone and plug it directly into the phone jack. (a phone that doesn't require power)
You will have a phone, even if the power goes out.

KMF61MCF 2/17/2013 5:22:18 PM Report

Wonder what the PUC does with the Power generated from all the 680 or so Solar Panels they have installed on the roof of the George Leach Center at Algoma University. Guess is none of us probably benefit from it.
Honestysucks 2/17/2013 5:34:41 PM Report

Your telling me Shaw does not have battery back up at each of there cable nodes to provide power to their cable modems to each customer that has their cable home phone? Wow that is sad!!
starynight 2/17/2013 6:17:04 PM Report

Most of you don't know what you're talking about. Its the same comments every time. Its getting old people. And to "thesharr" ... do you honestly think the workers are in the "new" warm building flicking switches from a control room to turn your power back on ? ..... no!!! they are outside working in snow, wind and rain at all hours of the day/night to fix power for ungrateful people.
AnnieP 2/17/2013 7:00:13 PM Report

Is this the reason my tap water was rusty coloured on Saturday night? I live in the east end and am wondering when the water will be back to the way it used to be! I have lived in my home for 40 years and have never had so many problems with water since late last summer. Anyone else have this problem?
moosehunter2 2/17/2013 7:25:32 PM Report

Mudrunner must be real special if his shaw phone works when the power is out lmao!!!OR IT COULD JUST BE THE VOICES IN HIS HEAD THAT MAKES HIM THINK THE PHONE IS WORKING!!!!!
mudrunner 2/17/2013 10:42:20 PM Report

moosehunter2

Your an idiot Shaw has a battery back up.
Omg know your equipment before you open your fly trap.
moosehunter2 2/17/2013 11:09:51 PM Report

mudrunner shaw did not have a backup when I was a customer!!!
Ricatoni 2/18/2013 11:32:49 AM Report

wow people in this city are wild.....services are getting worse and the bill is going up..... yep thats the new age....were getting ripped off by these thiefs...... face it they can do what they want.... there is no competition other than having your own generater....pay up or shut up thats the PUC way......LMAO!!!!! just dont pay your bill what are they going to do ?????
forsalessm 2/19/2013 2:57:57 PM Report

starynight - I could not agree with you more. Every person that comments on SooToday.com regarding the PUC has no clue what they are talking about!! They don't understand why the PUC spent the money on a new building, or how it was funded. What if it cost the same amount of money or more to upgrade the old buildings to current standards, so they could keep the power on and water running? Would that have been ok? Get the facts straight. Then complain. Most people don't even realize how the PUC runs as a business or what is involved.

Ricatoni - So let me get your logic straight. Don't pay your PUC bill and then have electric and water/swear service how..... you make no sense.

I personally challenge everyone person who has an issue with the new PUC Building, the water quality, the power outages, or any other issue regarding PUC to show up at city counsel and express you feelings. You may be surprise at the explanation you get. But then again who am I kidding. Most people who make the negative comments on here are to lazy or intoxicated by 6pm to make it to a counsel meeting. Just a fact people, look in the mirror before you start pointing the finger.
