Manitoulin OPP assist Wikwemikong Police with firearm incident
Wikwemikong male arrested in gun call
WIJWEMIKONG, ON – Manitoulin OPP was dispatched to assist the Wikwemikong Tribal Police with a firearm incident on the Wikwemikong First Nation.
On the evening of Monday February 11, 2013, Wikwemikong Tribal Police received a complaint that a man was distraught and armed with a rifle.
It was reported that shots were fired randomly and then the male ran off into a wooded area on the Frist Nation.
Members of the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), The OPP Canine Unit, Tactical Rescue Unit and OPP Negotiators responded to the scene to assist the Wikwemikong Police.
The integrated response is for the safety of the community where there is an armed individual.
Shortly after midnight on Tuesday, February 12 2013, a 40-year-old male from the Wikwemikong First Nation was arrested and taken into custody Wikwemikong Tribal Police for firearm related offenses.
The Wikwemikong Tribal Police are continuing their investigation into this incident.
Police advise there is no longer any concern for the safety of the community.
Further details will be released by the Wikwemikong Police Service.

syndi 2/13/2013 11:46:21 AM ReportNot that it is really going to make very much of a difference if this is shared with you, but if it is a domestic related incident then there will be no names unless of course the ridiculous court reporter "accidentally" prints it one day and then retracts it the next or the police make the report and retract the names the next day too as they have been very well known for doing in giving this site info that should have remained private. Laugh all you want , but this type of irresponsible "REPORTING" has hurt quite a few people....including the children of these families.
