(9:20 a.m. update) Mixed weather continues across SooToday Country

Environment Canada is maintaining the severe weather warning immediately below.

Freezing rain warnings for Thessalon - Blind River - Espanola - Killarney have been ended.

The severe weather bulletin is following by an Environment Canada special weather  statement.

Freezing rain warning for Elliot Lake - Ranger Lake continued

Freezing rain this morning.

Precipitation continues over Northeastern Ontario in association with a low pressure system approaching the region.

Snow, at times mixed with ice pellets, ahead of the low will change to brief periods of freezing rain and then to rain this morning.

By this evening colder air will arrive and the precipitation will change back to snow.

A few centimetres are expected for some locales before the snow ends.

Motorists and pedestrians should be prepared for hazardous conditions as untreated surfaces will become ice covered and slippery.

Special weather statement for: Manitouwadge - Hornepayne  - Wawa - White River - Pukaskwa - Kapuskasing - Hearst - Timmins - Cochrane -Chapleau - Missinaibi Lake.      

Significant snowfall today.

now continues over a large portion of Northern Ontario in association with a low pressure system approaching Northeastern Ontario. 

Additional 5 to 10 cm of snow are expected, which will add up to total snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm by this evening over the regions. 

This is just shy of the snowfall warning criterion of 15 cm per 12 hours.

Motorists are advised that travelling conditions will deteriorate with poor visibility heavy snow and accumulating snow on untreated roads.

The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as warnings may be required or extended.

Please monitor the latest forecasts and warnings from Environment Canada.
