Summer jobs info warms a cold winter day

Monday, February 04, 2013   by: SooToday.com Staff

Employers are being encouraged to apply through the Canada Summer Jobs program for funding to help create student jobs.

Not-for-profit employers are eligible for up to 100 percent of the provincial/territorial minimum hourly wage and mandatory employment-related costs.

Public-sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees are eligible for up to 50 percent of the provincial/territorial minimum hourly wage.

Employers can apply online or print an application from the website.

They can also get an application by visiting any Service Canada Centre.

The Canada Summer Jobs Applicant Guide is available online, by calling 1-800-935-5555, or by visiting any Service Canada Centre.

Applications must be submitted between February 1 and February 28, 2013.

Young people aged 15 to 30 years who are full-time students and intend to return to school in the following school year can qualify for summer work.

“Through Canada Summer Jobs, we are helping Sault Area employers create meaningful summer job opportunities for students, while strengthening our community’s economy," said Sault MP Bryan Hayes in a news release.
