Workshops for kids coping with divorce. Stress management

Upcoming Workshops at Group Health Centre

When Mom and Dad Separate

Divorce is a painful time for adults. 

It can be even more difficult for children. 

The Group Health is presenting a series of 8 one-hour sessions designed for children ages 7 to 10 to help them understand and express the feelings they have about separation or divorce. 

Led by a Registered Social Worker, this series uses a book created to help children learn about divorce and the feelings of grief and to express those feelings through drawings and stories.

Workshop times – Tuesdays from 4 – 5 p.m.

Registration deadline – February 4, 2013

Classes begin February 12, 2013.

Stress Management Strategies

The Group Health EAP department presents a series of 4 one-hour sessions that will provide the participants with knowledge and skills to deal positively with everyday stress. 

Led by a Registered Social Worker, this series also includes guest presentations on physical exercise and nutrition. 

Each session will include lecture, discussion and hands-on learning and participants will be encouraged to set their own goals for managing stress in their lives.

Workshop times – Wednesday afternoons 1:30 -2:30 or Wednesday evenings 6:30 – 7:30

This is a great idea! Much needed. What about older kids, though? I think creating workshops for a variety of age groups would be extremely beneficial.

yes - there seems to be an over abundance of that here in the Sault - many kids over that age require the guidance

Unfortunately, we now live in a divorce infested society, but congratulations to all of the marriages that stand the test of time, by honoring their vows, especially "Till Death Do Us Part". In most cases, we can teach our kids more, by fighting to save the marriage and family, than we can by giving up on it, but it is what it is, and what it is, is a sad situation for everybody, especially the children.
