Premier-elect Wynne knows issues: Madahbee
UOI OFFICES (NIPISSSING, FN) (January 28, 2013 )– Anishinabek Nation Grand Council Chief Patrick Madahbee is hopeful that Kathleen Wynne’s cabinet experience will lend a sense of urgency to Ontario’s approach to First Nations issues.
“Premier-elect Wynne has been the minister of education and Aboriginal affairs, so she has some insight about our priorities,” says Grand Council Chief Madahbee. “We respect her grasp of the issues.”
Madahbee says Ontario needs to demonstrate to First Nations that it is a committed partner in closing the funding gaps in First Nations child welfare and education, and in using resource revenue‐sharing to help First Nation communities become self‐sustaining.
“We are willing to support any of the new premier’s efforts to achieve progress for our people.”
The Anishinabek Nation established the Union of Ontario Indians as its secretariat in 1949.
The UOI is a political advocate for 39 member communities across Ontario, representing approximately 55,000 people.
The Union of Ontario Indians is the oldest political organization in Ontario and can trace its roots back to the Confederacy of Three Fires, which existed long before European contact.

fatafr 1/28/2013 11:16:12 AM ReportI know someone will come on here and call me a racist but what I would like to be called is a realist. When I was watching the recent film showing the conditions of native families in Attawapiskat, I couldn't help but wonder
why some of these families had 4 ot 5 children under 6 years of age.
When my family came to this country in the 1950's, we also had 7 and 8 children. My aunt had 9 children. But, we never gave any thought to how much welfare was going to be given to us or how would we survive without some sort of government hand-out. These immigrant families came here to look for a better way of life and they found it and that was because they worked and sacrificed for it and asked for nothing in return.
We have this constant culture of entitlement and that is something both the Federal Conservatives and the province better deal with. When I hear the premier-elect talk about reducing the debt and increasing the social safety net, Ontarians should be very nervous about this new leader.
Wisenheimer 1/28/2013 11:49:27 AM ReportFrank .. the little boy who could see that the Emperor had no clothes could not be called a racist or politically incorrect. You will not get the same pass, even though this dude is stark naked.
Ricatoni 1/28/2013 12:39:16 PM ReportSo whats your point fata??????????other than you put people of this province into different categories.......im sure if we checked you and your family took advantage of all the oppurtunities that were offered to you when you came here......dont be coming on here and giving us your poor me and them....... my family did it on our own bull%$#@.look at you now taking money and perks from the tax payers of this city and giving nothing in return....please if you can give us examples of what it is YOU have done to improve jobs or living conditions in this city by all means let us no???
I would be very interested to know how you have made mine and others lives better??? well other than screwing us with MPAC by raising our house taxes by 60,000 over four years......that should be awesome for the city creating what at least another 200 million in revenue for you robots at city hall to spend on lavish trips to were ever you want to go............you politicians are all the same you take our money and give nothing in return except comments that are for the most part useless....please keep your racist comments to yourself!!!! we the real people of the city dont care about you or what you think!!! you will be thrown out of office next election just like the liberals will be come the next provincial election ......yours truly ward five resident
Nats85 1/28/2013 1:45:19 PM Report@fata - ALSO the employment opportunities given to NON First Nations is greater than that for First Nations. So you can say they sacrificed and worked hard and such but I've seen it first hand, my father was a University educated man and VERY intelligent and a hard worker but COULD NOT get hired in thie city because of the racism. At one point one business told him to his face he'd have better luck moving from this city to get a job in his field SURE ENOUGH we moved and he was hired QUICKLY because of his education and eventually became a Senior Technical Analyst/Programmer for a great company. But ofcourse we had to move away from this ridiculously pathetically racist city and that was like 14 years ago...so don't sit there and say First Nations LOOK for hand outs. Non First Nations have Welfare too, not just First Nations.
jojoe71 1/28/2013 5:57:44 PM ReportIt will be very be very interesting to see what changes miss KW will bring to the province. The FN hope she will see it their way and be a saviour...the teachers hope she will see it their way and give in to their demands..the northerners are hoping she'll return the northern train rail line that Dalton closed. I doubt any of it will happen but who knows how things will turn in this crazy world.
Norm 1/28/2013 9:23:21 PM ReportWe do need an election. A thousand political insiders voted Wynne in, not the Ontario voters. Fata, you said you'd be called a racist, great fore sight. I didn't see anything racist in your blog.
MikeQ 1/29/2013 7:39:26 AM ReportAt least fata isn't costing me an escalade and $68,000 in "unnamed travel expenses."
westofthesoo 1/30/2013 10:24:17 AM Reportmisery is optional!!! in a smaller setting, family and friend will receive before a stranger!! It may also be the deciding factor who would receive the job! I wonder what the number is who receives social assitance in sault ste marie? Does education, opportunity, self determination care what your race you are? Employment on reserves is growing rapidily along with educated youth. The Sault is a young city, what will it be like in 50 years? Education! Education! Education!
