Statement by Liberal Leader Bob Rae on the New Premier of Ontario
TORONTO – Liberal Leader Bob Rae made the following statement today on the election of Kathleen Wynne (shown) as Premier-designate of Ontario and Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party:
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Kathleen Wynne on her election as Premier-designate and Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party.
As a steadfast and tireless leader who has spent decades working in her community, Ontarians can look to Kathleen for a strong and prosperous future.
This also marks a monumental day in the history of Ontario, as Canada’s most populous province will have its first woman Premier.
Kathleen takes on this responsibility at a difficult time.
But in my political experience I have rarely seen a speech of such candour and power as we heard from Kathleen today.
She has taken on the forces of prejudice with a spirit of love and openness, and I'm convinced that these same qualities will stand us in good stead in the time ahead.
As a Liberal, and a former Premier, I wish her much success, and am confident she will be a great Premier.
On this occasion, I would also take the opportunity to express my sincere thanks to outgoing Premier Dalton McGuinty and commend him for his many years of public service.
His determination and commitment have produced a better quality of life for all Ontario families and a legacy of which he can be immensely proud.
On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucus, allow me to express my best wishes to Kathleen and her family; I very much look forward to working with her in the future.”

kodak11 1/26/2013 9:13:07 PM ReportAnother Kim Cambell....wont be around long but nice job on the "token women"leader..oh those Fiberals
ShawnM 1/26/2013 9:24:53 PM ReportExactly, the faster we get an election the faster things can get back down to business.
ddikky 1/26/2013 9:38:31 PM ReportBob Rae - A political party jumper congratulating McGuinty on making a better quality of life for people in Ontario - Really?
Lostclause 1/26/2013 9:39:20 PM ReportThe Liberal Party is out of touch with today's people. It needs a total and complete revamp from top to bottom and a realignment of it's priorities. But then again the same could be said for EVERY political party,it's just most obvious with the Liberal's this time.
I'm In 1/26/2013 10:25:49 PM Reportddikky: right on, Rae a Liberal wearing orange in the early 90's, he sucked the NDP voters in, Andrea Howarth has more going for her than Kathleen Wynn, wake up Ontarians, the only way you get a good quality of life is if you go to work everyday and the politicians don't take more than 50 % of your take home pay, its time to stop working for free.
jojo12345 1/26/2013 11:44:56 PM ReportNICE ROLE MODEL FOR OUR CHILDREN'S
steelworker 1/27/2013 6:24:59 AM ReportLooks like Booby Rae with a three dollar wig.
SPOCK-62 1/27/2013 7:06:39 AM ReportShe has some mighty big shoes to fill. The corruption, waste and the lies. It can't happen. Can it?
cjborg 1/27/2013 10:01:35 AM Report The only thing needed now for a complete Liberal Party disaster is for Kennedy to be made Education Minister again; much of the Teacher overpayment mess we are currently in is due to "Master Mind" Kennedy.....
Further, how can one forget his throwing his last minute support for Stephan Dione for the Federal Liberal Party Leader!!!!!!!!!!!!)... (He was much better at running a Food Bank!!!!)
Bob Rae is another Liberal prize, with his recent FN 13 point declaration mediation skills.
It is most unfortunate that our hard working, sincere, local MPP is going to be tared with the same brush.... he should consider switching to the PC party before it is too late.....
Oh well that's politics for you... We had a nice break while Parliament was not in session anyways...
Biggfinn 1/27/2013 10:06:41 AM ReportI actually think PREMIER Wynne will be an excellent role model for our children and everyone else.
Smart, dedicated, hard working and interested in ALL Ontarians.
Majority Liberal Government here we come.
Polis 1/27/2013 11:03:14 AM Report@Biggfinn, I heartily agree! Although I am not sure about the Liberal majority, I am looking forward to seeing the Legislature back to work with Wynne.
Biggfinn 1/27/2013 11:20:20 AM ReportYes you're probably right no majority, but I wish her luck and good fortune.
Prrrrrrr 1/27/2013 12:39:49 PM Report"NOPE"
Prrrrrrr 1/27/2013 12:59:43 PM Reportlol @ Right Wing...that's too funny!!! In my opinion!
fatafr 1/27/2013 1:21:14 PM ReportWynne was the wrong choice for this Province. Sandra was the far better choice. Sandra is much more to the right. Wynne's premiership will be very short lived. It's pretty sad to think that Wynne was chosen over Sandra by at least 1 candidate because she already had a seat and Sandra doesn't.
The liberals will be done next election.
This Province needs a strong, more conservative-minded government. We have too many people in this province who think they are entitled to something rather than a roll up my sleaves and get to work mentality.Wynne is not the person who will move this Province in the right direction.
Locally, I still believe that Orazietti should retain his seat. I don't think the ndp will have a strong candidate that will serve this riding well. The local PCs seem to have a problem attracting anyone to run that's qualified and actually resides here.
I guess we'll see...and probably...soon.
Again, I believe Wynne's term as premier will be very short lived.
Just my thoughts.............
I'm In 1/27/2013 2:54:22 PM Reportfatafr: People want to work but not for minimum wage when they have to feed a family, would you, and you as a councillor did not bring one job to SSM. We will see if you are at city hall next municipal election.
Mr.O 1/27/2013 3:40:55 PM ReportWe keep on hearing of Mr.McGinty's legacy he is leaving behind. My children and grand children will be responsible for the financial mess Dalton is shouldering them with. Shame, shame
IB-fine 1/27/2013 4:40:16 PM ReportServing up another woman to blame for McGuinty's mess!
Just call parliament back to work after 6 months off and call the election already!..... know they still got paid the whole time they weren't working! Anyone else would have not got paid being off work that long!
Enough of their lies, scandals and picking on the lowest income people and middle class.
If this continues there won't be a middle class and the seniors, disabled and working poor will be on the streets!
