I'm hearing a lot of people saying that if cab fares were more reasonable there would be a lot less of this taking place.

77 years old! Crazy bast@#d. LOL

BeeJ..If they can afford to drink, they can afford to take a taxi.
scottstewy123 1/25/2013 8:45:26 AM Report

Well maybe if gas was not so darned expensive maybe the cab fares would be cheaper. Food is more expensive because of high gas prices.
Laser 1/25/2013 8:46:34 AM Report

probably been doing it his whole life, just got caught this time!
habby67 1/25/2013 8:53:39 AM Report

That's the best one I heard yet. I'll take a chance driving home smashed outta my mind because the cab fares are expensive. Wait till this guy gets the fine and all the other associated costs with this charge. A cab fare will be pale in comparison lol.
moem 1/25/2013 8:59:05 AM Report

It's not about money or cabs. If you drink, don't drive there is NO excuse for this. Drink at home and stay there. People who drink and drive need to examine their priorities and they may also benefit from assessing their drinking, because it's likely a problem. There should be automatic jail for first offense. So many people posting on here want to lock everyone up for long periods of time for petty crimes, yet you almost never hear people mention jail for drunk driving when it is in fact a crime with possible deadly consequences for us all!!!
Javaman 1/25/2013 9:07:05 AM Report

Many think laws apply to everyone but them.Penalties have to be made heavier such as first offence 5ooo bucks and loss of license for one year. Second offence 10000 bucks and a LIFETIME ban on driving.
Prrrrrrr 1/25/2013 9:22:13 AM Report

First offence option...
When one drinks and places themselves or others in harms way they might have an illness (addiction could impair ones ability to make decisions.)
In my opinion any person arrested and found guilty should be sent to a 6 week rehab center at their own cost.
After SUCCESSFUL completion of the course...a report is put in thier file to disapear x number of years after driving clean.
If the person is unemployed or can't pay, no license till you pay...SIMPLE! Some people make mistakes others have real issues...I think the system they use now is ridiculous...
Studlee 1/25/2013 9:32:20 AM Report

I agree with javaman.

SandyB 1/25/2013 10:14:22 AM Report

Just a quick note.. many who drink, drive, crash and kill do not have a valid license .. they need the alchol too badly that they just don't care.

this isn't a 'expensive cab' or 'expensive gas' issue.. it is an addictions issue and should be treated as such.

Java, I agree with you in the heavy fines. It might make someone think twice, even if taking away their license doesn't..

habby67.. correct. if they are required to use the ignition interlock, the total costs of that plus fines plus increased insurance can run them over $50,000..

Laser.. you are more right than you know.

They will say 'i've never been caught'.

I just smile and use one word.

I'm just sayin' 1/25/2013 10:18:23 AM Report

a_mom 1/25/2013 10:23:59 AM Report

they should just ban alcohol again and this will stop happening altogether
the machine 1/25/2013 10:32:52 AM Report

When people are drunk theres no reasoning with them. There is so much awareness out there and people know the consequences!
It wouldn't matter if the first dewey offence was loss of a limb or life people would still do it. They think that they can drive safely or just dont care.
Add in there a domestic or another bad situation and its even worse, now the person really dont care and is driving like a maniac while drunk.

Sorry folks i hate to say the problem and not have any solutions because i dont think there is any 1 solution, people are people.

Dont get me wrong, there are responsible people out there and i dont know the numbers but after all the awareness people still do this. Its sad...
the machine 1/25/2013 10:36:39 AM Report

Maybe the prov/gov can have monetary rewards for people who snitch on a known drunk driver.

I dont think the problems goin away but at least this may get dangerous prople off the road.
sarji 1/25/2013 10:53:36 AM Report

not all drinkers are drunk. there's more impaired drivers who haven't touched a drop than have imbibed.

Koolaid 1/25/2013 11:02:03 AM Report

Ya ok a_mom , i don't think that would work, it would cause more problems. It would create more crime. Criminals would start dealing in illegal alchol.
Rachel01 1/25/2013 11:02:26 AM Report

If I'm not mistaken after a certain age you are not allowed any type of driving infractions or your licence is revoked. Don't think this idiot will be driving anymore. I don't care if he is 77. I think it's about time he got caught and I am especially grateful that an innocent person wasn't hurt because of his stupid decision.

If they did this how would the ugly people get laid??
jojoe71 1/25/2013 12:09:14 PM Report

I think back in the day before cell phones people got away with more. Nowadays people can't wait to hit the 911 buttons or get a picture and post it on line. we're living in a time where it's hard to get away with anything. In a way thats a good thing.

They don't think about or plan on being busted, all they think of is "I'm not spending $25 on a cab"

Some people are extremely cheap (and dumb)!

I've heard several examples of this exact thing going on lately, I'm sure I'm not the only one who has heard of this happening.

maltese 1/25/2013 1:43:29 PM Report

The impaired guy that hit me & totalled my car & my health, was SUPPOSED to be using his vehicle with inter-loc. But he decided to use his wife's car that didn't have there you go. Oh, did I mention he left the scene??...good thing someone followed him so the police could arrest him. A drunk driver has no concious apparently. That was his third offence by the way, & as far as I am concerned he got a slap on the wrist. Meanwhile I am as better as I am going to be, which some days is not very good. And I still have anxiety when someone follows too closely. I think that some province on the east coast is planning on somehow marking the license plates of repeat drunk drivers. Somehow I don't think this will deter the offenders either.
Koolaid 1/25/2013 1:48:03 PM Report

We should all go to 272 Rowell Avenue and picket out front of his house and call him names.
