NEWS RELEASE

SAULT STE. MARIE
RATEPAYERS ASSOCIATION

*************************
On the evening of January 23, 2013 organizers of the Sault Ste. Marie Ratepayers Association (SSMRA) and representatives of PUC Inc met to discuss and plan for the first open public meeting between the ratepayers of the Sault and PUC Inc.

We would like to thank Brian Curran, President & C.E.O and Dominic Parrella incoming new President & C.E.O for their time and participation in this endeavor.

We all look forward to the upcoming meeting with the goal to foster better communications.

The gathering will begin at 7:00 pm and end at 9:00 pm on Wednesday February 27, 2013 in the Russ Ramsay Room at City Hall.

The meeting will open with a brief introduction of what makes up the Sault Ste. Marie Ratepayers Association, outlining our goals and methods, while promoting active and responsible participation in local government.

Following our opening introduction, representatives of PUC Inc will provide a brief statement about themselves with an update of current issues facing the community along with any upcoming items they anticipate.

The balance of the meeting will be a question and answer format between citizens and PUC. Inc representatives.

It is our belief that this new joint process of public gatherings will become valuable to community communications.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact us and please spread the word to your neighbours.

We will look forward to seeing you on February 27th.

I just want my water to taste like nothing again instead of pool.....Also if they fix the water I wouldn't have so many dame eczema breakouts...the water was harsh enough before, and now I am bathing in a pool.....and drinking pool....everything smells like a damn pool....

Translation:

"Now that PUC management has had consultations with big-wig lawyers from Toronto, they're ready to talk to you and address your questions with preconceived, scripted answers."

put our water back to what it was instead of fooling around giving money away use it towards making our water better
Mermaid 1/25/2013 8:20:15 AM Report

Will you people ever be happy? Must be a miserable existence to complain so much about everything.
Beej 1/25/2013 8:36:15 AM Report

Hey, the water is GROSS, you think it's just a couple of people that can't even drink it without gagging and are having health issues over it?

Not so.. here is the poll from just a couple of days that says otherwise..

Nice to see! It's about time this happened. I'm in!
thesharr 1/25/2013 9:02:55 AM Report

Your waisting your time talking to these two clowns, they don't care anymore about you than they cared about our water.Nothing will change, the water will taste sh*ty,the new building will come in over budget, and our water supply system is outdated. The only thing you can bank on is the p u c bill sky rocketing.
Mermaid 1/25/2013 9:19:28 AM Report

O ya, a Sootoday poll is real hard evidence. The only ones who respond to it are the people who complain on here constantly.
Grace 1/25/2013 9:22:31 AM Report

Do unto to others as you would have them do unto you.

So if you consider them clowns is that the way they should consider you?

charger 1/25/2013 9:23:19 AM Report

the sharr, you took the words right out of my mouth.
daddy frank 1/25/2013 9:42:44 AM Report

I have a question, can anyone answer it?
if our water rate is going to increase 10% per year for the next 5 years will that also increase our sewage charge the same amount? which would tell me our bills for water and sewage will increase 50%? also the increase in service charge on the water, will also increase on the sewage which they have buried in there
daddy frank

When I was a child, I spoke like a child, thought like a child, and reasoned like a child. When I became an adult, I no longer used childish ways.

Mermaid...

I suggest you take a look at how many responded in that poll...2039. While many complain on here regarding the PUC issues....I haven't seen over 2000 people leave comments. There's issues customers are not happy with...if you're not expriencing them...excellent! Scroll on by.
Mr. O 1/25/2013 5:01:53 PM Report

I think this sit down is a little to late. The PUC has it's new building and lots of empty space to dispose of, if it can. Did they need the huge glass building and all the ones behind it?
To daddy frank I asked a clerk at the PUC that question. Answer , YES sewage, consumption and basic service will all go up by 10%.The metered water will cost 45.1 cents per cu. metre for the first 15 cu. metres in the month and then jump to $1.32cents per cu. metre for the next 250 cu.metres.
It's to bad that the PUC/news media did not give the tax payers a clearer picture of the new costs. I hope you realize the compounding effect on the water rates over the course of the next 5yrs.

come on this is sault ste marie don't you know by now that we are NATURALLY GIFTED
Grace 1/26/2013 7:01:25 AM Report

Maybe too late for what has happened in the past but now we have an opportunity to change the future.
Think positive!
IB-fine 1/26/2013 8:40:57 AM Report

I hope I can attend!

Yes I would like to know why my water still tastes like chlorine and I have to run it through a Brita for it to taste normal.

I'd like to know why when I use $3.45 worth of water by the time they add on sewage and distribution costs it ends up costing me $43.50?

And I'd like to know why when we have all the power dams, solar farms and windmills here that power is still costing us so much in distribution charges.

Plus with the planned rate increase of over 10% over the next few years how to they expect those seniors and on fixed incomes are going to be able to still afford to stay in their homes?

Are they going to have some sort of plan like they do in MI to help low income, seniors and fixed income people with their bill in the winter?

But then are we all going to ask the same questions? Hmmmm?
Grace 1/26/2013 1:01:36 PM Report

IB, Bets are those are going to be at the top of everyones list! I'm more curious on how after we get I probably should.
Grace 1/26/2013 1:05:34 PM Report

Let's try this again shall we..IB, Bets are those are going to be at the top of everyones list! I'm more curious on how we'll arrive at solutions after we get the answers.I probably should be keeping more up to date on what goes on at the PUC..I am a shareholder after all.
