Prrrrrrr 1/22/2013 8:09:08 PM Report

rotfl.....@moem
proud mom 1/22/2013 8:22:55 PM Report

I agree with moem. Honestly, some of you must sit there every day waiting for any First Nations story. Always the same people with the same comments.
jinjin 1/22/2013 8:28:57 PM Report

How about that lady with the sign, the one that sootoday pulled because it was misspelled.
choniofthewoods 1/22/2013 9:27:37 PM Report

I wonder if Soo Today posted Nominations for Italian awards if people would post belittling comments? Doubt it..

Individual Racism takes the form of individual attitudes, beliefs, values and behaviors. Some examples of racist attitudes are racial prejudice, belittling, jealousy and bigotry. Examples of racist beliefs are stereotypes, the belief that some races are better than others, and even include the belief that people can be classified according to race in the first place.

Banber 1/22/2013 9:43:51 PM Report

Oh how nice it will be to be able to click on a story and not see racist or belittling comments from someone who I bet wouldn't dare be that racist or belittling to someones face. I bet the second face you see in a mirror each day is the only one that truly loves you.

I watched the Agenda on TVO tonight and it was really eyeopening. It was about the Indian Act, and should it be removed etc. One person on the panel was a journalist who went to Attiwapiskat and he talked about the trailers that DeBeers gave to the reserve, and I don't remember the year, maybe 2009, or 2010, and they are completely unlivable. This journalist believes that unless you have pride in ownership, that you do not look after what you are living in. He says that FN should be able to own their own houses. Really interesting hour.

Clearly Jo JO the story is about awards and not First nation accountability. So before you point your finger, examine your own behaviour and place your judgment, anger, and ignorance else where where its appropriate.

Why are people so angry. Prayers for you all!
moem 1/23/2013 8:04:03 AM Report

This article is about aboriginal achievement awards, the person who suggested that it would be a short list is racist. The rest of you saw an aboriginal headline, probably didn't even read the story and began posting the same old stuff you post on every article " the why don't they pay tax or the thieving indian comments" it's absolutely ridiculous.... Congrats to all those who get nominated for their hard work and achievements

Ps your tax dollars don't fund natives
TFinn 1/23/2013 9:49:35 AM Report

moem 1/23/2013 8:04:03 AM

Please enlighten me then, where does the money come from..! Just so you know, if any moneys are filtered to the Bands through any governing body, then it is from collected tax dollars. Since financial records of FN Bands are public accessible thru the web, it states in the revenue sections of those statements, money came from both Federal and Provincial Governments and from other sources as well and is recorded as part of the revenue of that particular Band. So please stop saying money doesn’t come from tax dollars. In the words of Judge Judy … “ don’t pee on my leg and say it’s raining..”
mssunny 1/23/2013 11:41:25 AM Report

lmao thanks for what? It's people like you who make sootoday's comment section racist and hateful.

headline reads: Nominations for Anishinabek awards now being accepted

somehow some people still want to discuss that they THINK, wait, that's a bad word, more like what they BELIEVE, that they are paying for someone else?

first off, this story has nothing to do with what you are asking,

secondly, after all this time and so many discussions on the topic of people's taxes paying for natives, you still haven't even looked into any of the claims that you believe?

lol, unreal
mac2 1/23/2013 12:46:09 PM Report

my favorite, i believe that this is the way it works, i have no proof of that, but i believe it, and you prove to me otherwise, woot!
mac2 1/23/2013 12:57:30 PM Report

what? lol
mac2 1/23/2013 12:59:20 PM Report

are you trying to say to me in an insulting way, that you want me to teach you how the world works, or how your taxes don't pay for natives to live?

i'm not sure what your point is, or what you are asking me?
mac2 1/23/2013 1:00:03 PM Report

i'm not paying?
mac2 1/23/2013 1:09:02 PM Report

http://www.mediacoop.ca/blog/dru/15493

here's a different perspective then what you believe. who's paying for who?

also, if you are upset about paying taxes, and where that money is going, why not look into why our country is in such debt, cause most of your taxes are going to interest on our debt. ever wonder why?
not because of the natives, lol!
Nats85 1/23/2013 2:53:34 PM Report

OK...THANK YOU for your ancestors coming over here on their boats, bringing with them rats and disease..thanks for electing your governments all the hundreds of years who made the INTENTIONAL decisions to send our communities blankets plagued with diseases that wiped out alot of our people, thanks for sending us dangerous vaccines AGAIN intentionally, thanks for turning a blind eye to all the women from our first nations going missing, THANKS for auntomatically stereo typing us before even knowing what our educational background is just because of the colour of our skin, THANKS for developing Residential Schools and forcing our people into them and abusing them for years and years, THANKS for thinking it's ok to turn your back on the treaties after everything that WE originally gave you's and after all that has been done. You like to THINK that has nothing to do with you all because it was so long ago but WE in today's generation still feel the effects of the abuse/mistreatments that occured to our great-grandparents...if we have to pay TODAY for all the wrong doing YOUR ancestors did then why don't you???
highway1 1/23/2013 3:25:40 PM Report

First Nations people are tax payers.
Nats85 1/23/2013 5:03:56 PM Report

WOW, yes because you all would have been the ONLY chance at the world EVOLVING and becoming more advanced...didn't realize that! lol
Nats85 1/23/2013 5:09:52 PM Report

I forgot people of european descent are the only ones with the ability to mentally florish, gain knowledge and ARE THE ONLY ones to date to have doctors, nurses, lawyers, biologists and such. BUT WAIT...I know First Nation doctors, nurses, lawyers, biologists, teachers etc etc etc...WELL WHAT THE HANG IS GOING ON WITH THAT?? :)

TIPS ON HOW TO FIND A RACIST:

Find a news article on First Nations issues scroll down to the comments section. You will find plenty. It is truly sad that as advanced as we supposedly are that people are still ignorant as they are.
H.E.T. 1/23/2013 8:08:17 PM Report

There are as many hard working self supporting native people as there are in any other race, colour etc. To all those who talk about people that live for free on your tax dollar, look out your front window and odds are you can see an unemployed non native living on the system. Many of you will have on facebook the pic of the person in a canoe that reads about the 2 and a half million lakes and rivers that were protected in 2012 and not in 2013 and says thanks Mr. Harper. If you have this on your facebook, thank you for supporting Idle No More. The treaty's were signed between two groups of canadian citizens, the gov and the people.
moem 1/23/2013 11:38:52 PM Report

Tfinn

Natural resources from the land that white man took from them, they get a percentage, I will let you look that up..... And btw who is judge Judy? Sorry i have never been involved with the legal system so I can't quote any judges!!

Burned

You should really do some research and learn about history ( and very recent atrocities done to FN) learn to think for yourself and develop your own arguments from facts not feelings

Mac2, as always a breath of fresh air, as are the others who recognize subtle and not so subtle racism and who have once again stood up to call people on it. You bring pride to this city!!!

If you had read my post I had mentioned some facts from financial statements, that money does come from the Governments, be it Provincial or Federal and from “other sources” Are you now denying that the bands do not receive funds from them ..??
moem 1/24/2013 10:46:04 AM Report

No tfinn I'm saying that it's not from your pocket!! Wow... Dense
TFinn 1/24/2013 1:16:47 PM Report

I probably pay taxes in the higher percentile, since we both work and have a business as well, which we remit taxes each and every month from that business ....so since it is taxes which we pay which are intended for the betterment of a certain lifestyle and that those taxes are to allow us to have available, education, roads , medical, pensions and any other services that are to help the citizens of our country ….then yes, essentially it does come from the tax payers of Canada and Ontario’s pockets. Talk about dense … I’m not the one trying to evade the real truths here, the money comes from somewhere …it doesn’t just magically appear every year …. does it ..??
TheBeerman 1/24/2013 4:50:49 PM Report

moem = dense racist

Most racist comments I see on sootoday are from moem, yet day after day she's allowed to spew hatred

Apparently racism is a one way street on sootoday?
moem 1/25/2013 9:04:28 AM Report

Thebeerman

What a clever name. Lol can you copy and paste for me one racist post I have made? Do you know what racism is? Do you understand what it's about? Who am I racist against exactly? My posts remain bc they are not racist, I don't spew hate I argue with facts and not feelings! This article is about recognizing aboriginal achievement and a racist post from nimrod started the ball rolling into yet another us vs them debate.... Have another beer
moem 1/25/2013 9:10:27 AM Report

Ok tfinn one more time, the money that bands get to support their people comes from the percentage if money given to them from canada's profits from natural resources not your taxes. Also native people who live and work off reserve pay income tax just like you, they also pay propert taxes just like you. There are many native people earning in high tax brackets, some even higher than you I would imagine and they pay tax too! There are people if all color who a use the system and live off of " your tax money" you would be well advised to remember that when you make judgments about people
