Leaders in Waterloo’s tech community to speak on mobile apps and HTML5
SAULT STE. MARIE - The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre (SSMIC) today announced that Dan Silivestru and Sean Yo will lead a workshop for small business owners on mobile apps and HTML 5 this January 21 at the Delta Waterfront Hotel.
Dan Silivestru, from Research in Motion (RIM) and Communitech, will lead the workshop with a presentation on mobile application development, and Sean Yo of Hackademy and Hive Waterloo will follow with a session on HTML 5.
This session will focus on the following topics:
- Trends in information technology and web
- Trends in mobile application development
- The impact of HTML 5
- Mobile apps and HTML 5 implementation for small business
“There is no question that mobile applications and the release of HTML 5 present significant opportunities in the I.T. sector,” said Tom Vair, executive director, SSMIC. “We hope all members of the I.T. community will join us for what promises to be an informative and engaging discussion.”
Prior to joining RIM, Dan Silivestru was one of the co-founders and CTO of tinyHippos Inc. which was acquired by RIM in 2011.
Dan is currently working at RIM as an open source ambassador and has also joined Communitech as an executive in residence, helping advise local start-up companies.
He also is the host of the highly successful MoBeers event for mobile application developers.
Sean Yo co-founded a web development company in 2005 and was chief architect at InGamer, a technology start-up building a second-screen companion fantasy game for live broadcast sports.
Sean is a leader in the tech community of Waterloo and Guelph where he runs the Guelph Web Makers Meetup and Accessibility Camp Guelph.
His most recent ventures are Hackademy, a non-profit focused on digital literacy and coding skills for kids, and Hive Waterloo, a network for technology communities modeled on Hive NYC.
