WHERE'S THE PARENTS OR PARENT OF THIS KID!
Daiv 1/17/2013 12:49:20 PM Report

Maybe the parents didn't know that the kid shoved it in his backpack.
Kids don't always listen to their parents, you know.
My sister was told repeatedly not to take her discman (remember those??) to school because it would get stolen, but she took it anyway... and it got stolen (surprise!)

That being said, now that the kid HAS taken it to school, I hope the parents do something about it.

Kids don't realize, that even if it is just a BB gun, if you point it at a policeman, he will probably shoot you.

wonder what the appropriate action taken was?
Even if no harm was intended, the child had to know that taking any kind of gun to school was not acceptable!

I have a 12 year old who was able to purchase a BB-Gun at Walmart. It was clearly labelled on the package not to be sold to anyone under 18; the clerk sold it to him anyway. He was pretty upset when we returned it...People shouldn’t go on a witch hunt after the parents/guardians till they know the facts;)

oldawg is right, some kids have no idea.

Wow.... my biggest worry is if my son tries to sneak his pokemon cards past me!! A BB can still be classed as a firearm. As some .177 caliber air rifles can exceed 1200 fps and some handguns can range upto 700 feet per second, a firearm is anything over 500 fps

not cool

Are you kidding me,Discman brought to school compared to a bb gun,you don't know what a kid shoves in his or backpack, and what are the facts that allow anyone to bring a bb gun to school. It's time Parents take responsibility for your kid's actions.

I started response earlier, and then decided to wait and see if this issue was mentioned on the 6:00 pm news.

My first question
1) how did the school and the police know the boy had the gun in his back pack?
2) If they knew the boy had the gun in his back pack while enroute to the school, why would the not intercept the school bus, instead of waiting for the boy to arrive at school.

I also know a BB Gun can cause a anyone, to lose an eye; if hit by one of thr pellets. I am sure the gun can do other damage as well.

Last, but no means least this is the second time this 11 year old boy has taken the BB gun to school.

Am I missing something? why was the gun not locked up the first time this happened, better still why was the gun not locked up; when it first came into the home?

You hear about all the crazy stuff that happens in the states, let's not let it happen here.If this student was brandishing this gun in the school grounds, and the police were called, this could of very well escalated into something alot more serious. At a distance the police could not tell if it is a BB gun, now what, think about it!

hes a kid prob just trying to show off to his friends. glad no one was hurt and im sure he knows its wrong now. just because he had a bb gun does not mean he intended on harming anyone. and no i dont think this should be takin lightly. just saying its possible he was trying to fit in or act cool not kill people.
