It's A Mystery
The Sault Ste. Marie Museum will present an exhibit of mystery photos, January 15 to March 25, 2013
What is Mystery Photos?
The exhibit features 100 photos from the museum's archival collection that require names.
These images are all from Sault Ste. Marie, but lack identifying information.
Some require names, while others need a location or date.
"It is quite interesting to see how many photo have been identified when we have done this type of exhibit in the past," commented Curator Kim Forbes. "One tends to look at old photos and wonder who the people are and unfortunately it was not the custom in bygone times to write names on photos."
The exhibit documents a overview of many topics including sports, musicians, recreation, buildings to name a few.
The curatorial selection of the featured photographs was a bit of a lengthy process.
"We are aware that there are photos in the museum's collection that will probably never be identified due to their age." said Forbes.
We have found that people really enjoy looking at old photos even if they can't identify them, it still provides a glimpse of times gone by.
