Wednesday, January 16, 2013   by: SooToday.com Staff

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in identifying suspects thought to be responsible for the theft of laptops from two area retailers.

The first incident took place on January 11, 2013 at Staples located on Great Northern Road during which a lone male is suspected of taking a MacBook Pro laptop valued at $1,800.

A second incident occurred yesterday at Future Shop.

A male and a female (pictured) are suspected of walking off with a MacBook valued at $1,200.

Both were observed leaving the location together in a mid-2000s small four-door silver car.

Constable Sonny Spina of Sault Ste. Marie Police Services told SooToday.com that it is unclear at this time if the two incidents are related.

If you have any information regarding these crimes, or any other crime, call Crime Stoppers at 705-942-7867 or 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), submit an e-tip from the Crime Stoppers’ website or text keyword SSM with your tip to 274637.

Text STOP to 274637 to cancel. Text HELP to 274637 for help.

Message and data rates may apply.

My apologies...misread the article.

When are retailers going to get cameras that 1. Take a half decent picture and 2. Are located so that they take a shot of the persons face...not the top of their heads!
Jayne12 1/16/2013 5:13:43 PM Report

Actually future shop has cameras all over the store.. and to let u know. They have alarms thatgo off when laptops are removed from the display. employees responded right away but the theifs took off. Know the story before u complain about things..

A chimp with a disposable can take better pics while on a bender.
stewie13 1/16/2013 5:54:42 PM Report

Seriously. We're talking about thieves here, not the quality of the pictures. I can't believe some of you people. The headline was "Can you identify these theft suspects?" not "Can you critique security camera photos for us?".
anapeg 1/16/2013 6:10:47 PM Report

Deny if you can the quality of the offered pics? Most would have a problem identifying a family member in these oft posted mistakes.

Poshkitty 1/16/2013 6:54:53 PM Report

Is it the same guy?...both wearing the same shoes!!
Zarm27 1/16/2013 7:54:18 PM Report

The time stamp shows 2 people walking in on the 15th.
the coach 1/16/2013 8:49:58 PM Report

They live in the east end.
young guy 1/16/2013 11:48:28 PM Report

The coat in both locations are very similar,

Also, in Future Shop, they both appear to be 'running' in their exiting from the store--both of them--look closely....

#6 and #8 Their feet displacement is very large as if they were, in fact, walking--they're not giants--They are running as they're exiting the store!!! DUHHHH....

young guy 1/16/2013 11:52:00 PM Report

#5 and #7 don't prove anything at all...
MrJWall 1/17/2013 12:18:27 AM Report

Bonnie and Clyde? Lol.. Just look at priors in the system and at least one will be familiar--also pawn shops be aware!! I know you are sometimes but--my ring stolen at christmas a year ago I still say slipped through into the melting pots!! (It was a very sentimental ring and unique--only one made!) Maybe Sonny and Cher?
MrJWall 1/17/2013 12:22:16 AM Report

So 3 people involved or what?
MrJWall 1/17/2013 12:50:10 AM Report

I know when I was there once it was hard to find any workers to help me--they appeared to be almost dodging me (can't speak for any other customer) I had to go ask someone and I was pointed to another part---then pointed elsewhere once I got there-then when I got there--a male and female worker were so engrossed in their convo--they had no time for my question (it was obvious!) So maybe look at ur staff before an "all points bulletin is put out!" They probably know ur staff? Ever think of that? LOL Futureshop with all the possibly technology lol!!!
MrJWall 1/17/2013 12:53:54 AM Report

Oops my apologies too lol!!! But I have had same experience finding people to help me at staples too!!--actually more when I think of it! So sorry to futureshop--!ut what I said--you do need to work on! So staples...prob. Know someone that works there these people.
MrJWall 1/17/2013 1:00:09 AM Report

Duh!! Anyway--now I have fully read article lol--so same goes for both really! My apologies for wasting space on here but--the feeling of being ignored by workers and 'dodged' I don't like and it does happen at both stores--alot of these purchases from these stores are big items worth lot of $ so you should feel welcome if ur spending a lot of ca$h!!! No? Even staples should have better theft protection--its not like the getaway car can get away quick in the staples or futureshop locations!! With the traffic up there??? So they definatley have friends in the stores.
crashed13 1/17/2013 9:22:50 AM Report

Being a store that sells high tech products they sure do not use there top of the line high res. cameras for there own use.

A high mounted camera sure gets defeated pretty easily by a ball cap.

Is all that I can say.
coolrunning 1/17/2013 6:29:33 PM Report

If Retail establishments didn't have to worry about clowns such as these two, they wouldn't need High Definition Cameras now would they!?
People that steal are the reason you have to ask for help to get a video game or MP3 player behind a locked counter, return and exchange policies change, and more questions are asked to paying customers for their own protection!
Go work in a retail store and see how much you appreciate this kind of behavior!
jojoe71 1/17/2013 10:47:03 PM Report

Surely if you can read a licence plate from space; these stores could have a camera that has face recognition. I think they use cheap cameras for insurance reasons. If they don't have a security camera then their insurance wouldn't cover their losses. Hence the mickey mouse security. jmho :)

Why not put tracking devices in the high end (bait) merchandise. gps
