OPP suggest pre-planning and appreciate patience
ORILLIA, ON (January 15, 2013) - Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are once again advising the motoring public to be aware of potential traffic delays when undertaking travel planning in the days ahead.
Protest activities may delay the normal flow of traffic on highways, including 400-series highways, and on other transportation corridors throughout Ontario beginning tomorrow.
The OPP is working with those involved to minimize the impact on the traveling public and the movement of goods.
The public is advised to check ahead for road advisory information and to monitor local media for the latest updates and alternate routes.
The main objective for police during these situations is to maintain public safety and to restore the orderly flow of traffic and other transportation networks as necessary in the safest manner possible.
The OPP and its partners appreciate everyone's patience in dealing with traffic and other delays respectfully.

Canadians are waking up
miss_sault43 1/15/2013 5:28:40 PM ReportLETS DO THE ROUND DANCE !!!! ALL OVER THE WORLD :):):)
Boomer4771 1/15/2013 5:29:32 PM ReportWOW. I say charge each and every one of these persons blocking the roads and highways. They have no right to empede on others. We have all paid for these roads to use. Blocking them is against the law and they should be treated as law breakers.
billybob 1/15/2013 5:30:18 PM ReportLets do the Neutron Dance instead.....Love the Pointer Sisters.
Boomer4771 1/15/2013 5:30:58 PM ReportDo the round dance... Bahahahahaha and you all might fall down.LOL.
sassafras 1/15/2013 5:35:30 PM ReportMiss Sault43, the only message you are getting across is one of pure annoyance! Less is best.
guestwho 1/15/2013 5:41:39 PM Reportmiss_sault43
get a life
bulletcards 1/15/2013 5:48:40 PM Reportmoderator, can you please suspend miss saults account for repeated spamming of the comments section? there is no need to post the same post so many times.
MikeQ 1/15/2013 5:54:28 PM ReportThank God for 4x4.... take the soft shoulders ladies and gentlemen... if they have the exception of the law to be able to block a highway, I'm going to declare the exception of the law that I have to drive on it.
I'm sure when I get arrested, it'll end up on sootoday. We can talk more about it then. haha
MikeQ 1/15/2013 5:56:56 PM ReportThe only thing canadians are waking up about is how annoying these protests are and how something needs to be done. The grand chief said no more words, time for action... well maybe it's time the government agrees on that new policy of his, and meets it... equally, and then some.
agb 1/15/2013 5:57:52 PM ReportI hope every major highway gets blocked tomorrow :) A small inconvenience compared to all the environmental damage that will occur should bill C-45 not get thrown out !!
NyteGurl 1/15/2013 6:01:38 PM Reportsomething very nasty brewing up... are true COLORS going to be seen tomorrow?
a pun??? you decide... :-
MikeQ 1/15/2013 6:17:09 PM ReportKind of ironic to listen to people talk about caring for the environment when they fish with gill nets, shoot animals out of season, and take home way more than their daily limit. Last I checked, hunting and fishing restrictions are set to ensure stability of wildlife and the Eco systems. Yet FN are able to pretty much commit mass murder of the animals for their own gain, and then block my trip going to meetings because they are "concerned for the environment."
Prrrrrrr 1/15/2013 6:19:25 PM ReportI agree...miss_sault43 is using Sootoday for political purpose! Seems as tho Sootoday is taking sides!
agb 1/15/2013 6:27:55 PM ReportI know first nations people hunt and fish with more respect than any other culture . But thanks for another uneducated comment :)
john69 1/15/2013 6:28:58 PM Reporti couldnt have said it any better mikeQ ya they really care alright they destroy it throw them all in jail the free ride is over
NyteGurl 1/15/2013 6:30:15 PM ReportMikeQ,, you got it exactly right on your post!!! If people only knew what natives do to avoid paying taxes as well!! I'd like to enlighten some, but this isn't the appropriate place to do so.. and all this BS Idle Know More made me do my homework on certain laws and WOW.. I know of some natives that will now wish people didn't google things and figure out how crooked they've been!! So sad!!!
moem 1/15/2013 6:33:59 PM ReportFirst people were saying " let's see them try that down south" now they are ( actually have been all along) and more negative comments.
This movement isn't about hunting and fishing limits this is about the bigger picture, already we have corporations filling in lakes and destroying calving grounds, it's only going to get worse our lakes and rivers need to be protected, if we want there to be land and resources for our great grandchildren we must protect them!!!
And let's address the gill nets.... Does anyone really think that commercial fishing companies are using rods and reels??? Seriously... I would imagine there are more fish and wildlife caught in nets commercially than the natives could ever compete with......
NyteGurl 1/15/2013 6:45:30 PM Reportmoem.. FYI.. the majority of commercial fishermen around here ARE native
NyteGurl 1/15/2013 6:48:48 PM Reportmoem.. oh yes and they ( native commercial fishermen) DO use gil nets dear..
angens 1/15/2013 6:48:58 PM Report@ Boomer4771 LOL...if they could charge us don't you think they would have by now? duhhhhhhhhhhh
john69 1/15/2013 6:57:31 PM Reportthey want to manage the land and waters they cant even manage a reserve go harper dont cave in to this crap they complain about education its all paid for like everything else they dont wanna go to school
agb 1/15/2013 7:03:20 PM ReportMoem you're right on the money !! There are too many areas that this bill affects to cover in a few sentences !! To all the people complaining about the protests and the Idle No More movement , I would really like to see your comments once all of our lakes are poisoned and we have to go to great lengths to access clean drinking water !! Not to mention all the health problems you develop just like many other people already are !! Just for an example why dont you research Grassy Narrows and see if you still have the same opinion !!
shaddow 1/15/2013 7:16:49 PM ReportI feel that miss_sault43 is doing plenty to upset many people on here by her stupid idiot actions & help to make the possible blowup to come quicker. I am now totally pissed off at all this Bullshit. As for the natives & what they are doing to our society I am now 100 % against everything they are doing. The Government should pull all stops & using our Army bring these terrorists under control as all terrorists should be, and not allowing this to continue until the violence starts, then it would be too late. Then it will be the Police & our Governments fault that peoples lives are not worth more than that. Think about it ..... contact your Members of the ONTARIO Provincial Government & Members of the Federal Government & say enough is enough - stop the terrorist actions of the natives before more Canadians decide we are losing OUR Rights, of Peace & Safety while the natives are getting the Police & Government to help their side against us - block our roads, block our Railroads, make life miserable for us other races, which are not involved. We keep the peace when it comes to the laws of the land, but they do not have to. The PQ Terrorists in Quebec were brought down quickly WHY NOT THE NATIVES. They have showed they have no respect for all of us, so why should we. My opinion ....... which will most likely be removed as only natives are allowed to post their opinions which makes the usual DOUBLE STANDARDS to kick in.
mikethedike 1/15/2013 7:21:47 PM Reportagb
I know first nations people hunt and fish with more respect than any other culture . But thanks for another uneducated comment :)
Are you serious
Most natives I know, hunt and fish with utmost disrespect for the land and the natural resources. This includes, but is not limited to: killing more animals than is necessary to feed family, leaving animals to rot, shooting off traditional lands, hunting at night, shooting from roadways and vehicles, not checking traps frequently, selling meat to non-natives, and littering. Lets not forget drinking and driving.
AGB' Give your head a shake.
MikeQ 1/15/2013 7:29:50 PM ReportWhoa people are upset about miss_sault posting something she believes in over and over and over. And now people have to scroll further down, what an inconvenience. Don't you hate when people shove their political ideas in your face constantly to the point where it inconveniences you.... Wait a second? Isn't that what this article is about???
Mim 1/15/2013 7:37:18 PM Reporthttp://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=relmfu&v=GFNYNmUNYdk
Open your eyes missy us Canadians are not the bad guys. If you go hungry tonight call up your chief for a couple of hundred bucks. You want to be your own nation but yet you need Canada's millions of dollars? Look around people every one is hungry, we all unemployed, and if we aren't we make next to nothing!
I am a Canadian, I respect democracy, I respect unity, not tereny !
agb 1/15/2013 7:45:13 PM ReportMikethedike You "give your head a shake"FYI Im not native , i have lived half of my life off reserve and half my life on reserve Ive seen hunting and fishing from both sides !! Can you say the same thing or are you basing this info on perhaps a one time experience youve had !!
NyteGurl 1/15/2013 7:45:59 PM Reportshadow, I was for this "idle no more" and have to admit I thought they were doing the right thing too... ask me how I feel about it now...
after knowing what I know and doing a little research on my own due to the actions (threats) of natives and realizing their fight is all due to cover ups of their own people... they use this bill and protection of the environment as a cover to the real issues and crookedness going on by all heads of bands and council... if one chief is made to open her books, then next will happen to ALL chiefs.. do they want that... where it shows their own people how badly they've been dupped over the years? Wake up people most natives don't care about the envirnment as much as they claim.. it's all they have to use for cover of what this "idle no more" is really about...
the more they keep these actions up, the less support they're going to gain and when native accounting books are opened, then and only then will the true issues be known and then let's see how concerned about the environment they truly are as well...
they're going to create a war and in the end change history for sure, but it will change against them this time arund
agb 1/15/2013 7:51:13 PM ReportMIM I have nothing against Canadians I AM CANADIAN !! "Go see my chief for a couple hundred bucks " that comment alone shows just how ignorant and uneducated YOU are !! Its not about hating Canadians its trying to EDUCATE people like you who were raise to hate on others and speak before you think !
joshua_r_b 1/15/2013 7:57:21 PM ReportTreaties are over 200 years old. On times of tipies and long houses. If they everything the way it was they should move back into those, ride horses and eat what they catch and hunt. Enough is enough, do what u so best.
Idle some more.
NyteGurl 1/15/2013 7:57:32 PM Reportabg try telling me I don't base my opinions on facts.. I dare you???
because the FACTS that I HAVE seen with my eyes will be coming soon and you can then read all about them right here at this site... wanna make a date for when it all comes to light so we can discuss how wrong you are... :-)
3-Pointer 1/15/2013 7:58:40 PM ReportReally? Since when do we get warnings about people who are about to break the law. OPP needs to go out there and arrest them.
MikeQ 1/15/2013 8:00:14 PM ReportMikethedike... That's a good one. I like when people use words like "uneducated" and then start calling names. Sounds like a university education to me. Good job man, good job.
Timbob 1/15/2013 8:05:30 PM ReportI'd like to advise OPP that they better start doing their job!
Arrest this group of illegal terrorists and let the rest of us law abiding citizens get on with things.
Please explain to me why we pay the majority of OPP officers north of $100k to sit around and ignore the law? This is lunacy.
Norm 1/15/2013 8:28:49 PM ReportSheeessssh
EAGLE 1/15/2013 8:38:29 PM ReportIt's pretty obvious the FN leaders are declaring war on Canadians and with the step up of protests starting tomorrow and anticipated blockades at bridges, railroads & roads you have no concern for thousands and thousands of people throughout the country and what they are doing as they travel. Our forefathers who fought in World Wars and other wars as well as those who helped built the country would be dumbfounded to see all the freedom they worked and fought for taken away and their freedom to come and go as they pleased blocked by threatening people marching under the protection of the police. What happens if things still don't go your way after this next step.....what's the next step? Be careful what you march against and don't burn the bridges that were built for you to cross as well. We are all Canadians. We are all made up of many cultures, religions and beliefs. Why do I have a feeling the peace we as Canadians have enjoyed for so long is on the edge of a cliff and the process you are using to be heard is the wrong one?
TankGirl 1/15/2013 8:40:15 PM ReportThe OPP support the hands off approach.

Johnedater 1/15/2013 9:07:54 PM ReportI have an idea...try blocking the roads in Ottawa so politicians are delayed getting to their office instead of ticking off the average Joe Citizen
Johnedater 1/15/2013 9:09:50 PM ReportI forgot to ask.....has Miss Sault 43 figured out how to copy and paste yet?
mikethedike 1/15/2013 9:21:27 PM ReportOPP Commissioner was quoted as saying "we will not take unnecessary aggressive action against these peaceful protests".
Why bother enforcing speed traps, or theft? These are peaceful acts compared to blockading a rail line or major highway.
This is setting a very dangerous precendence, and as most of you are aware, tomorrow, the Indians are boasting a "step up" in their actions. This is going to get worse before it gets better unless the OPP (our trusted guardians) get to work and arrest these criminals.
That is all there is to it. You would arrest me for smoking pot, or drinking on my front porch, but Indians get to set up blockades of major routes?
SHAME ON YOU Canada. And SHAME ON YOU INDIANS.
Johnedater 1/15/2013 10:14:36 PM Reportwho is protecting my rights?
freedom1 1/15/2013 10:43:50 PM ReportThis may help explain.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjvq2vtumpA
mjr 1/15/2013 10:47:29 PM ReportI find it very disturbing that the OPP are refusing to act on an ontario court judge's injunction to stop the blocking of major rail lines and highways.
I thought elected legislators made the laws, the courts upheld the laws and the police just enforced the laws.
Norm 1/15/2013 11:06:05 PM ReportThe OPP take their orders from the Ontario Premier. Dalton stood back and ignored Caledonia, where innocent home owners had trouble getting to their homes and even in the their driveways, due to the Aboriginal blockade there. It's going to get worse, much worse. Hopefully no one gets hurt. Pray for cooler heads to prevail.
sinikka 1/15/2013 11:11:56 PM ReportThis movement is really rousing the usual passive canadian. Violence is inevitable and it will be direct result of these terrorist actions taken by a spoiled few and inept law enforcement who refuse to do their jobs. Call , write or email harper and encourage him to send the army in to break up these temper tandrums that disrupt the normal lives of everyday canadians in the guise of representing everyone. The funny thing is when harper finally decides to deal with this civil disobedience, his popularity will skyrocket. The tide has turned and canadians will be idle no more to these special interests groups who constantly disrupt the freedoms that we have come to enjoy.
Greeky3 1/16/2013 7:40:03 AM ReportWELL SAID TANGER!!
freedom1 1/16/2013 8:25:29 AM ReportIf you liked the James Cameron movie "Avatar" and don't support #IdleNoMore -- you missed the point of the movie. lol
tube 1/16/2013 8:32:28 AM ReportIt would be nice if the POLICE actually did there job and arrest the individuals instead of catering too them
Really?? 1/16/2013 9:22:25 AM ReportHere is a good way to annoy the yahoo's who want to annoy us!! The first few vehicles whom are at the front of the line when these ignoramous's fire up their blockades, should roll up their windows, turn up the radio and place their hand firmly upon the horn!!!
Don't let up until the assholes move!! You got a big rig?? Even better, those air horns are nice and noisy!!
The problem is though, the OPP will have no problem charging the white man for excessive noise lol
What a joke this is becoming!!! I agree with most, these "blockades" are turning all the remaining supporters against the Indians!!! I have a hard time showing any support to anyone who shows me this much disrespect!!
agb 1/16/2013 10:07:24 AM ReportSuck it up people !! The protests and blockades will not stop until the Canadian Government decides to honor lands and treaties :)
agb 1/16/2013 10:10:38 AM ReportOh , I almost forgot !! If you're planning to cross the international bridge between noon and 5pm today I would go a bit early, might be some delays :)
231Turbo6 1/16/2013 10:30:10 AM Reportarrest everything single last one of them involved for unlawful assembly
sledneck440 1/16/2013 11:03:58 AM ReportThe thing i dont understand is how do these first nations get all this time off work to protest?
67Tanger 1/16/2013 11:06:01 AM ReportYour policing of these reports are very biased....obviously the truth hurts and you immediately remove these responses.
The "Globe and Mail" had no problem publishing this info.....What makes you better than the globe and mail?????
mssunny 1/16/2013 11:08:59 AM ReportThe intent of this movement is not to make people mad, yes it might be an inconvience for the people on the highways, but this is not an "Indian" problem. EVERYONE in Canada is affected.
Get informed and read about it, stop the hate. #idlenomore
dravo 1/16/2013 11:10:00 AM ReportHey Sledneck440 I don't think welfare keeps track of all there time.
