Coping with Grief program
The Group Health Centre is offering a series of six two-hour workshops for adults on Coping with Grief.
In these sessions, a registered social worker will guide those living with loss through presentations and discussions that will help them understand their grief and find meaningful ways to heal and grow through their loss.
During the discussions participants will be asked to share only as much as is comfortable for them.
Topics of the workshops include exploring the stages and tasks of grieving, common emotional reactions, nurturing needs and reaching out for help, and new beginnings.
If you are interested please call Group Health Centre at 705-759-5626 to register or for more information.
The social workers also offer individual grief counselling and information about booking these appointments is available from the office.
Registration deadline - January 22

madmaymax 1/12/2013 4:57:39 PM ReportHow can someone put a price to grief??You are paying 75.00 to share how you feeling about the lost of someone you love?? I do not think that there should be a charge for this at all!!Someone should start a Support Program where one feels the need to share, not have to pay to share if they are comfortable sharing, this is my opinion!!
mallet 1/12/2013 5:05:25 PM ReportMadmaymax...
I think you will find most Churches offer these type of programmes for free. Not that I have anything against the Group Health, but they are just trying to fund themselves. At one time this was just for the steelworkers and families but as the plant reduced it's workforce they had to allow the general public in, otherwise it would have closed, due to lack of numbers...
Beej 1/12/2013 5:09:55 PM ReportThere should be no fee for this type of thing, it's just wrong.
makemyday 1/12/2013 5:34:50 PM ReportThis used to be free along with other social working programs. They were cut off. I know of one special lady who lost her position and her clients also lost out. She was amazing at her job. Her name was Lori. (Queen Street office)
Shame on anyone who wants to capitalize on such a situation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
madmaymax 1/12/2013 11:06:06 PM ReportWHAT FUNDING DO THEY NEED???? THEY HAVE A PLACE,HEATED AND LIGHTED ALL THE TIME?EVERYONE IS ALWAYS LOOKING FOR A VOLUNTEER?? WHAT HAS TO BE FUNDED???THE CANCER SOCIETY ON MCNAB ALWAYS OFFER WONDERFUL PROGRAMS FREE:) THE GROUP HEALTH SEEMS TO DO ALOT OF FUND RAISING SO I STILL THINK TO CHARGE FOR THIS IS NOT RIGHT AT ALL!!! MAKING MONEY AFTER PEOPLE DIE FROM A GRIEVING LOVE ONE IS LIKE JUST NOT AT ALL RIGHT NO MATTER HOW YOU LOOK AT IT!!!
oldred 1/13/2013 12:31:10 AM ReportIf you deal with the GHC, you've already got enough grief in your life, dishing out another $75 will only give you stress too!
Lynx 1/13/2013 3:20:26 AM ReportWell, you all pretty much hit the nail on the head with your comments. I am so pleased we are all on the same page!
Ya gotta admit, this is all WRONG!!... A person shouldn't have to pay the price for his or her grieving process. Save your $$'s, keep the faith and come to terms that your loved one is in a better place.
Time eventually helps the healing process, memories last forever.
