Program for college or university grads interested in computer science degree

SAULT STE. MARIE - Algoma University has announced the return of the Accelerated Computer Science program in Sault Ste. Marie.

The program offers college or university graduates the opportunity to get their degree in Computer Science in just one year, in an accelerated format.

"The program is for the graduate of a college computer-science related program, or a university graduate of a program area other than computer science, to get a degree in Computer Science, in a very short period of time," said Algoma University Registrar David Marasco. "Those looking to enhance their skill-set in an effort to advance their career, or need a computer science-related credential can quickly earn one in this accelerated program."

Students in the program will either study toward a Bachelor of Arts, or a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, depending on their prior credentials.

They will begin their studies in May, taking accelerated classes throughout the Spring/Summer term, before joining regular programming in the Fall.

They will complete the program the following April.

Market indicators suggest there is a need for specialists in the field of computer programming.

"Obtaining computer-oriented skill development will help both the unemployed and underemployed in an effort to expand their employment prospects. This program affords students an opportunity to quickly develop a skill set that will add value to their resume, and their self-worth," said Marasco.

Those interested in learning more about the Accelerated Computer Science program are invited to attend an information session at the University on Thursday, January 31 at 6 p.m. in the Doc Brown Lounge (EW 205).
