Norovirus outbreak officially over

Officials from Sault Area Hospital (SAH), in concert with Algoma Public Health, have officially declared the recent Norovirus outbreak over.

SAH wishes to thank the public, and especially the families of our patients, for their understanding and cooperation during this time.

A special thanks to staff, physicians, volunteers and Algoma Public Health for their vigilance and hard work in successfully managing the outbreak.

Norovirus has been circulating in the community for several weeks and continues to be present and active.

Symptoms of Norovirus can include acute onset of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and/or abdominal cramps.

In addition, myalgia (muscle pain), malaise and headaches are often reported.

Although the outbreak is now over, it is important that individuals who may be planning to visit the hospital use discretion to safeguard both their safety and that of our patients.

Anyone experiencing nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or cold/flu-like symptoms is strongly discouraged from visiting.

Those coming to the hospital are urged to wash their hands often with the solution provided throughout the facility, especially before and after entering patient rooms.

We also ask that visitors be respectful of any direction or requests from staff and to limit their movement within the hospital to minimize the risk of spreading any infections.
