NEWS RELEASE
CRIME STOPPERS
*************************
Crime of the Week – January 7-20, 2013
January is Crime Stoppers month and fighting crime is everyone’s business.
Are you doing your part to keep our streets safe?
Fighting crime doesn’t mean going out and patrolling the streets with police.
It is as easy as calling Crime Stoppers and sharing any information you may have about a crime. Your tip may be the piece of the puzzle that police are looking for. Crime Stoppers pays up to $2000.00 for information leading to an arrest.
We want your information, not your name. Crime Stoppers does not have call display.
Emails and text messages are directed through servers that remove all identifying electronic features.
If you have information on any crime call Crime Stoppers at 942-7867, or toll free at 1-800-222-8477, type a tip at this website or text the keyword SSM with your tip to 274637.

Are you serious. Doing so would be to act proactively. Fighting crime does mean patrolling the streets with police.
burned 1/7/2013 2:51:43 PM ReportYou're a few bricks shy a load, eh sinikka?
sbjef 1/7/2013 5:43:37 PM Reportsinikka, you go right ahead. Put on your tights, cape and mask and go fight some villains! I will stay safely in my home and leave the bad guys to the police.
Jamie333 1/7/2013 8:55:14 PM ReportWhy is the crime of the week never an actual crime?
F!$h!e 1/7/2013 9:41:19 PM Reportyeah, i guess they forgot to put a crime up, lol. i vote for the stolen polaris tracks taken from the poor soul on 4th line (city police report) those kits are worth 4 grand plus.
sinikka 1/8/2013 8:56:36 AM Reportyou missed my point sbjef. Every evening there is vandalism and break and enters in the downtown core, every night. If there were more police patrolling the streets perhaps their presence would go along way to deter some of this criminal activity. I have no problem with the police force, but i do have a problem with statements like fighting crime does not mean patrolling the streets with police . Ridiculous
StrictlyConfidential 1/8/2013 10:33:15 AM ReportPart of the job of the police is to prevent and deter crime. However, they can not be everywhere all the time. We have a serious issue in our city and that is drug addiction. People will steal whatever they can to support their addictions. We also have a real problem with moral decay. There are many people who are on Ontario Works or receive a Disability cheque when they can work. Those services should only be there as a last resort, for example, if you have been laid off work and are unable to find work. Most often, the same type of people are stealing, but if they had a job and were productive members of society, they would not need to steal.
N1T5 101 1/8/2013 12:06:05 PM ReportMaybe Canada should follow Portugal in decriminalizing certain drugs. Portugals crime rate and drug abuse is down by 50% in the last ten years due to that fact. What they did was start treating drug addiction as a health problem instead of frowning upon it as most people in our society do. I'm not saying its not the addicts fault in any way, but it IS a health issue. An issue none the less.
mrbreakseverything 1/9/2013 9:18:03 AM ReportI agree with sinikka police should be out there think there are a few folks that need to look up the definition of the the word policing
