64-year old grandfather charged with sexual assault

A 64 year old man was arrested by detectives today and released with a court date of 04 Feb 2013.
It is alleged that on or about the 31st of October 2012 the accused sexually assaulted his four year old grandson.
The accused was charged with sexual assault and sexual interference.
His name is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.

When a child is sexually assaulted 'the name of the accused is with-held to protect the victim'. Who is being protected?????? Hello - the guilty one is protected. No-one knows who this person is but the family of this victim & Police. It could be someone who lives next door to us, or in our neighborhood. How do we protect our children from this individual??? All we know is he is suppose to be 64 & the grandfather of the child.. Does that mean you must watch every person in this 'age' area??? They could have posted the 'News Posting' with: (64 year old man charged with sexual assault, etc & posted his name), without using the grandfather. Then we would know who to watch. This covering up of the individuals name, will have all parents of Young Children & Grandchildren in fear of anyone in that 'age' area. Why have the 'MANY OLDER GOOD PEOPLE', that are in that age area, suspected when they do not need this suspicion laid on them, while protecting one 'BAD' person. If anyone ever asked me if it was my Grandfather, I would say NO, then punch them in the mouth for even considering it. I may get charged but wouldn't worry about it. Protecting these type of peoples identity is totally wrong & it's about time the Police & News Media start protecting the innocent & punishing the Guilty. Just my opinion ........

And of course innocent until proven guilty but I think the normal reaction to something like this is to vent disgust. The mere thought of it is sick. There had to be some credible evidence to lay the charge I would think.
If there is a conviction his name will still be protected so as to not identify the child.

I never made any suggestions of guilt or innocence, just that his name should have been published so that others with children could be careful around this individual. If the Police were involved for 2 months in an investigation, there has to be something improper or they couldn't, or wouldn't, have laid the charge. As to you stating that it wouldn't be the first time a child lied, I feel you are way out in left field. At 4 years of age a young child, does NOT lie or make up things, about a sick subject as this. Please read my previous posting very slow & thoroughly, before you make another foolish comment as you just did. I do not know how old you may be but you do not seem to know very much about little children. I do & I am only 20.

And it's weird because a guy in the states got a 30 year sentence ( should have been longer) and a bunch of people on here felt it was too harsh!!!
As for protecting the names, they must do that to ensure victims come forward..... As for potential victims just be vigilant, talk to your children and don't let them hang around strange men!!! You can't expect a young victim to subject themselves to unwanted attention and media just on the off chance that you live next door to the guy..... Though personally if it were my child, the headline would have read " parent kills grandfather of molested child" what a sick bastard..... Agreed we should have death penalty for these crimes

Grandfathers are supposed to be a special person in a child's life. This poor child will never have fond memories of grandpa. How sad.

Is being a murderer a mental illness how about bank robbery?? He may have an illness as well but it is not mental illness when you are a depraved sick dirty old bastard who exploits your own grandchild's trust and violate them like that hopefully the victim will get some help and overcome this awful thing.... The recidivism rate for these people is 98% so hopefully he will get life in jail, and if we are lucky the prison hierarchy will result in his death so that our tax dollars aren't wasted on his life... Fingers crossed!!! And if he is released perhaps someone else will take care of it
And how sick are the people writing " if he did it" I never see those " if " comments on any other crime stories, funny how a crime like this results in so many innocent until proven guilty comments, but on the stories about macs getting robbed people are quick to condemn.... Perhaps society is more concerned with the well being of a local convenience store than a child's precious life and vulnerability!!!!
Kudos to the Child's parents for reporting it, I'm are it wasn't an easy thing to do given it was a grandparent and I'm sure it was equally as hard given the rage they must have felt to call the police rather than killing him!!!

The old man could also very well have alzeimers or some strange old persons disease. He could have been trying to grab the remote control thinking it was something else he was touching...
And hey, look at all the very cute pornstar girls/women out there doing the grossest/sickest things you can think of. You can be the cutest/sexiest thing out there and I wouldn't be surprized if she had sex with a kid, they do a lot grosser things than that, well at least 'as gross/sick'. syndi 1/3/2013 10:31:11 PM ReportActually.... in response to the comment made about sexual abuse being a mental disorder, I would like to state that sexually abusing anyone at any time or age of their lives is not a mental disorder. It is a control and power issues. It disgusts me to think that still today that people have this way of thinking. If the truth of the facts be known, for far too many years people that did have mental health issues were usually the first to be looked at in regards to accusations of sexual abuse. While I am not by any means saying that people with mental health issues do not molest or abuse it does not go hand in hand. In fact it is usually the least unsuspecting person that is the abuser, i.e the priest, the teacher, the coach....I am sure my point has been made. Now is that to say that these people that have been given a position of authority as such to care for and teach our children are mentally disturbed? No not at all. In fact, there are many people that have never touched nor thought of touching a child or other human being in such a manner to take away their dignity or their own power. Once again...it is a power and control issue. Yes they are sick minded, but no they are not with a mental disorder.

Working Man, a 4 year old child is too young to know how to "scheme" or try to gain "power". (unless he is scheming to get one more cookie before supper)
