3rd times a charm 11/30/2012 9:58:50 AM Report

I guess the loooooooooooonnnnnnnnngggg waits, the 'no smoking' policy, and lack of staff is taking it's toll on everyone...

Dead End Kid 11/30/2012 10:01:42 AM Report

Peter's last name certainly lived up to the occasion.
Jcb84 11/30/2012 10:28:50 AM Report

3rd times a charm, really? You actually think that violence towards a healthcare worker would be a rational response to long wait times? you're an idiot. And what's with people in this community bitching about the service they receive. Our healthcare in this country is free and of the best calibre in the world, if you don't want to wait in line, go to America and pay for your care. You may be seen quicker but you pay a premium. Our frontline healthcare providers here do the best they can with the resources they are given.
And next time you're waiting in emerge, take a look around and ask yourself why it's taking so long for you to be seen. Most likely you'll be surrounded by drunks, sprains, nosebleeds, a hang nail, or some other ridiculous time waste. This is why there are wait times in emerge. People wasting nurses/doctors time with non-emergency bs and dealing with morons that go to the hospital to fight like the guy in the article.
/end rant
Slick Nick 11/30/2012 10:40:06 AM Report

Another Clown in our society.
Bad Dawg 11/30/2012 11:17:10 AM Report

sounds like someone didn't get their perscription.... there is a huge waste of hospital time with non-emergencies. If you have a long wait then chances are you don't realy have to be there. They don't make you wait for REAL INJURIES!! My 5 yr old lil girl got 3 stitches in 7 minutes. I slipped a disc and had a x ray done on my back in 12 minutes... the hospital is not the problem you whiners are!!
BigDaddy 11/30/2012 11:20:33 AM Report

Jcb84...sorry you are wrong on 2 accounts...our Health care is certainly not "FREE" and nor is it the best in the world (feel free to prove me wrong on either case with concrete evidence). No one should accept violence, for any reason, but assuming that you are a health care worker, you should have the understanding that long wait times, rude staff, etc, etc, does increase a person's stress level. Humans have emotions and whether or not mental health is a factor here...the current enviroment of our hospital is not helpful to anyone...staff nor the public.
Koolaid 11/30/2012 11:35:38 AM Report

Here we go again. maybe if there were higher paid Security guards, there would be better protection. The reason i say that is, if the security guards were paid a better wage they would risk more to protect the workers and the hospital in general.
Nimrod 11/30/2012 11:48:59 AM Report

Big D you are absolutely correct! Health care is only free for the people who do not contribute thru taxes.Unfortunately there is an increasing number of non-contributing users!!
Jcb84 11/30/2012 11:49:55 AM Report

BigDaddy, I don't have any data to throw down, so this is largely subjective, but from what I understand we do in fact have one of the best health care systems in the world. I never said it was THE BEST, I simply stated that it was among the best in the world.

And I think we all knew what I meant when I used the word free. There is a vast difference in how Canadas health care is billed vs our neighbour to the south for example. We can all use our hospital services without fear of not being able to pay our bill.
Koolaid 11/30/2012 11:54:03 AM Report

This is not a health care issue this is a security issue at our hospital. They must Pay more for security to keep the staff safe. << PERIOD
Beej 11/30/2012 1:14:34 PM Report

Even more importantly, they need a better staffed cancer unit, but THAT won't happen either.
the coach 11/30/2012 1:24:18 PM Report

Wrestle Mania.
ang24 11/30/2012 1:25:07 PM Report

jcb84
I deffinitly agree with what you said.
we are very lucky to have the health care system we have! and Big daddy, you need to read what jcb WROTE, also I agree with the fact that we do need more security at the Hospital!! THE STAFF SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PUT UP WITH ANY ABUSE FROM ANYBODY! I do also think that there are nurses that are just plain rude!!! If anybody has been mistreated by any staff from the hospital they need to file a report immediatly! Because if everybody allows the staff to treat them like garbage and not make a complaint than they really have no business complaining
fpreman 11/30/2012 1:29:55 PM Report

jcb84 knows whats up "oh i have a tummy ache i better go to the hospital"go to soo michigan and pay if you don't want to wait.I will wait anyday over paying,if you go to sault area hospital and get hernia surgery like i did..it's free had i gone to the states $10-$15,000.
bluewater10 11/30/2012 1:45:19 PM Report

Anyone who thinks this is ok needs to have their head examined. If you went to a restaurant and had to wait for your meal and the wait staff was 'rude' would it be okay to punch the waitress? Call them names? There is one emergency room in this city. It serves all outlying communities. You WILL wait if you are not an emergency. This does not include your definition of emergency. It means a real emergency. In bigger cities you won't wait as long because there are many walk in clinics and even other hospitals. We have one. Deal with it or move
Koolaid 11/30/2012 1:53:24 PM Report

The owners/operators of the Hospital are not providing a safe work environment for the hospital staff. When will things change, when a staff member gets killed? The hospital staff should be pursuing legal action with the labour board.
Dead End Kid 11/30/2012 2:12:29 PM Report

Just about everyone is assuming that he freaked out because he had to wait a long time in the emergency room. You guys just pulled that out of your azzes. No where in the article did it mention the details of the altercation.

Witch hunting is alive and well in 2012.
Jcb84 11/30/2012 2:29:12 PM Report

The first comment suggested that was the reason, the other comments were just a spinoff from the "waiting time" comments.
Peters whole deal happened because he's an asshole, and a bum, nothing to do with waiting times.
Zarm27 12/1/2012 9:12:55 AM Report

SAH is actually a wonderful facility, the wait times are related strictly to the hordes of people that show up since they're normally hypochondriacs, or they do not have a family doctor and they resort to the hospital over the walk-in clinics over simple things. Last summer there was so many people that had heat rashes, and it's just from excessive perspiration, which is common when it was that hot and humid. The article does not say which section of the hospital he was in, so we can't just assume it's from wait times. If he was there for a serious injury, he would've been put through the fast track.
fishin4alivin 12/1/2012 10:32:14 AM Report

True True!! Our security does need a much greater pay! Working in the health care field you come across many behaviors, unknown of the mans health it may have been mental. Lets not judge! Lets fight for protection for our nurses and doctors. An increase of unsafe activity needs to be dealt with, and increase of protection needs to be put in place. There are some staff that can be nasty, they have to be reported so it can be dealt with.
speed7 12/1/2012 10:46:04 AM Report

last time I was there for my relative we waited 4 hours. You can see there are many cases needed to be seen first before us, so truthfully waiting wasnt a big deal really? The government cuts hurt sure I agree but we just will have to make due for now. Sure it got tiring and boring waiting but there are cases seen first for a reason. Also we saw one male patient bieng guarded by 2 security staff. I think they have a handle on treating patients who cause trouble.
Lostclause 12/1/2012 8:37:44 PM Report

@ BadDawg

Not true that those who are "really" injured get taken care of quickly.

My daughter had a door close on her finger, her nail came off immediately,it actually had to be sewn back onto her nail bed. She ended up with 7 total stitches also (2 in her nail bed to reattach the old nail to protect the new one that would start growing and 5 on the surrounding skin) and she had to have a follow up appointment with a specialist for a skin graft around and above her nail. She and I were there from 7:30pm till 5am. 7 of those 10 hours was spent sitting in emerg itself. To boot, emerg certainly didn't seem busy when we arrived as there were only 3 others there when we arrived.
