Its seems everytime it snows way more accidents...Adjust and use defensive driving skills.
thera 11/28/2012 4:45:25 PM Report

I saw the aftermath shortly after 10am. It seemed that from all the damage (I think the car is a total write off), that speed was a factor as well!!
jimjim 11/28/2012 5:10:39 PM Report

There is an abundance of drivers in this city that tailgate. They are in a hurry so they try to run other vehicles off the road. This is very dangerous and probably illegal. There needs to be a crackdown on tailgaters in Sault Ste Marie. It is not your right to intimidate other drivers by swerving or driving really close behind them. I see it happening every day. I hope the Sault Police will see this and take some action. I can guarantee that this is a major cause of accidents.
They should give out hefty fines for people caught tailgating.
Alot of times people will get road rage, even if you are doing the speed limit. You are still going to slow for them. They blame you for the speed limit and their lateness.
If you don't like the posted speed limits in the city you should not take it out on the ones that do.
Vicci 11/28/2012 5:54:03 PM Report

At Trunk & Black both drivers were charged. I think more than just weather conditions were an issue there. And JimJim people that drive with their dog on their lap is my pet peave. I think anyone caught with their dog on their lap while driveing should have the dog or car taken away. This would be decided by a flip of a coin.
mudrunner 11/28/2012 6:17:35 PM Report

When people tailgate me I slow down another 10 km.
thera 11/28/2012 6:45:35 PM Report

@ Vicci,
how do you know that both drivers were charged? Just wondering if I missed the story somewhere...
Working Man 11/28/2012 7:33:44 PM Report

thera,

The last sentence in the article states that both drivers were charged.

Jimjim,

Tailgateing is illegal. you need to stay 2 seconds away from the vehicle in front of you. Definitely a major cause of getting hit from behind.

Most people who get road rage, are guys who if you track them down, will be all apologetic and kind towards you (this could have been re-placed with another word, but I didn't want to get deleted for mentioning a female body part). Not to say that they shouldn't get charged with a criminal act.

I would hate for my very old parents to encounter a road-raged fool trying to be tough behind his wheel..
speed7 11/28/2012 8:01:27 PM Report

Road Ragers should be fined heavily. I had one while trying to negotiate a left turn on second line west. The road rager with his truck decided to scoop onto the property on my right which is a buisness then turn left screech his tires at top speed. Very unsafe turn and then the best is the ass looks at me with a nodding look like I had done something wrong???? Second Line West is busy with traffic . Sorry monster trucks out there I dont leap over cars to make room for you. Learn some friggin patience because next time it might be you who smashes into traffic. I prefer to stay safe and travel at safe speeds. Make turns when I am good and read to do so. Dont like it. Tough for you. Next time I am taking down your liscense plate and calling the cops to report your road rage habits.

senfe 11/28/2012 8:13:19 PM Report

I love how you people come on here and give us all life lessons on how to drive and think that you've got it all figured out. My wife is new to this city and she was in one of those accidents this morning, not the one noted on here. A lady turned on a yellow and my wife slid into her. Neither was at fault and the accident was unavoidable and unfortunate. Now I've worked a long time promoting this city to my wife as well as the people in it for their generosity and friendliness but when she told me that not one person stopped to see if they were ok, I was embarrassed to be a part of this city. The funny thing is tho, she did see people taking pictures an honking to move out of the way. My wife spent 7 hrs in emergency today and luckily she will get over her injuries but remember before you come on here and assume people are tailgating or speeding, it doesn't take much to total a car and accidents do happen. Instead of running your mouth and giving us inserts out of the traffic act, take a look in the mirror and judge yourself first. To the people who drove by and honked and took pictures, I hope you sleep well at night. You've embarrassed me and our city today. Thank you also to the police who handled the accident with professionalism and courtesy. It's rare they get any praise in these cowardly comments.
jimjim 11/28/2012 8:32:59 PM Report

My comment was not cowardly at all. I did make a request for a crackdown on tailgaters. I did not say all accidents that happen are because of them. " Major cause" ..i think were my words.
As for people in need i stop to help people push their cars and lend a hand when i can.
I made no reference to the police in our city not doing their jobs properly. They are great.
I'm not the only one who feels that they are being harrassed and can't do anything about it. Being in a vehicle with 4 or 5 children in it, like me, and being nearly run off the road is uncalled for.
Accidents do happen....i think most can be prevented with a little courtesy and common sense.
senfe 11/28/2012 8:51:28 PM Report

Well I wasn't really referring to your comments jimjim at all. It was more directed to the first two and the fact that people come on here and criticize the police in this city on other articles any chance they get. I agree with your comments but also think that people should start doing something about these situations rather than coming on here and venting. Call the police. Take license plates. Simple common sense.
I'm In 11/28/2012 9:00:13 PM Report

If I ever get hit from behind I feel sorry for that person that hit me, we will need more than the police. God forbid you drive in front of someone in this city, because they are better than you. To those who cause accidents you should be treated like impaired drivers because when you cause accidents your impaired, and your drivers licence should be suspended.
Pete B 11/29/2012 12:08:54 AM Report

I still think that the drivers in the sault could be a little more agressive ! I read these comments and giggle, many of you have never been to a major city! and if you have then you were in a Taxi or bus ! our traffic problems ( I believe we dont have any) are nothing compared to major cities, we have like rush 12 mins downtown and on grt northern rd twice a day! were as Montreal or Toronto has heavy traffic on the freeways and the surface streets from 6 am till 9 pm 6 daYS A WEEK !
PipeBomb 11/29/2012 8:27:37 AM Report

senfe...no one gives 2 craps about your sob story so give it a rest. 3 things:

1.) Not every accident is caused by careless driving. We get it. However drivers in this city are horrible and most accidents are caused by idiots on the road.

2.) If I am in a hurry or have places to be there is no way I am stopping to help someone especially for a fender bender. The police and other trained individuals will be on site soon if it is serious.

3.) If you don't like this city, there is the door, and have a nice day. But not really.
shju 11/29/2012 10:56:24 AM Report

I love how people say no one is at fault in an accident. There is always something at fault, always. Its called speed, lack of common sense, basic driving skills, the ability to not put down your cell phone because we all know that everyone is so important that you must be talking or texting while driving.
senfe 11/29/2012 11:04:35 AM Report

Nice pipebomb, your comments speak volumes about your personality so I'm gonna hold back on my comments. I know it's close the first of the month and you've got a lot of planning to do today.
donnieboy 11/29/2012 1:00:54 PM Report

I just checked with Statistics Canada and the facts are in. Only the Soo has accidents when it snows.
PipeBomb 11/29/2012 1:18:31 PM Report

senfe says I'll hold back, then makes a comment anyways.
I realize the first of the month is coming thank you for the update, however I make more in a week than most do in a month (not bragging, I didn't do 4 years of school for nothing) and I live a very comfortable life.

Not that it's any of your business senfe but you keep being a keyboard hero and enjoy whatever pathetic misery you live in your day to day life. You couldn't handle my facts so you decided to take a low blow. Good for you. Your mother must be so proud.
senfe 11/29/2012 4:27:57 PM Report

PipeBomb, my apologies for the last comment. It was uncalled for and I'm a big enough man to admit it. I live a wonderful and fulfilling life in which I love my wife and my city. My point was that I think it's pathetic that people take pictures and honk to get out of the way when two women get in an accident where ones car (my wife's) has the bags deployed and car written off and the other is crying hysterically and no one , not everyone, but NO ONE could take five min to make sure the two are alive. For you to display ignorance to my initial comment make the judge of character easy and that's the type of people I was talking about. The 'do me' attitude is not what I thought this city was about. I'm done with my sob story, just tried to make a point. You win at the ignorance battle that this has turned into.
