New coffee distributor opens in Sault Ste. Marie

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI - The Sault Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to welcome a new member to their organization: Superior Coffee Roasting Company.

Superior Coffee Roasting joins the over 350 current member organizations active with the Sault Area Chamber of Commerce.

Superior Coffee Roasting Company, Inc. is a local provider of high quality and specialty grade coffee to individual retail customers and businesses in the Eastern UP, and Northern Ontario.

Their focus is on being able to provide a wide variety of excellent coffees from around the world which are then roasted and distributed from right here in the Soo.

"We’re very pleased to have Superior Coffee Roasting join our membership,” said Al Case, executive director of the Sault Area Chamber of Commerce. “A business like Superior Coffee represents a vital part of our membership: a small business owner and entrepreneur that occupies a much needed retail niche amongst our many diversified Chamber members.”

To celebrate their opening, Superior Coffee Roasting will be hosting a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Thursday, November 29 starting at noon.

As part of the festivities, Superior Coffee Roasting will be offering free coffee samples and refreshments, a shop tour, and a demonstration of the roasting process during the event.

The goal of Superior Coffee is to allow everyone the opportunity to enjoy the difference of how a fresh roasted coffee bean can taste - and at a price that is very affordable.

They like to say fresh coffee is like fresh baked bread: you can always get a loaf of bread at a supermarket, but nothing is as good as when it come right out of the oven.

They feel the same really is true with coffee.

In addition, the coffee that they purchase is sampled with every order they make to be sure that it meets the quality and has the flavor profile that they expect with each batch they roast.

Ron Kurnik, owner and operator, has been recently certified in coffee roasting and "cupping" at the Willem Boot Coffee Consulting and Training Institute in Mill Valley, CA, but has been involved for many years in the art of coffee roasting going back to when he would help roast coffee with his Mom at home.

"It's kind of a family tradition that's been passed on to me I suppose," said Ron. "And I'm thrilled to be able to take it to the next level here in Sault Ste. Marie!"

The Sault Area Chamber of Commerce serves to promote, advance and contribute to the economic well-being of the business community and visitor experience, while preserving the character, history, and traditions of the greater Sault Ste. Marie area.

Its mission is to exhibit positive community leadership by supporting activities to improve the education and economic development of the business community and serving members with valuable support to improve business activity and collaboration in the community.
